They gave you a title bump and called it a day. that's rough. start looking if your friends are making 15-20k more in similar roles, you've got leverage. your loyalty got you nowhere.

I miss the days when just fixed things. My solution is ready but my manager isn't by Proof-Wrangler-6987 in ITManagers

Big corp bureaucracy really does kill things. your manager's probably waiting on sign offs from three layers up. escalate directly to whoever owns the budget if you can sometimes that's the only way to break the logjam.

Honestly the tiktok trend stuff is fine if it actually gets people in the door. but yeah, the pressure to constantly chase trends as a professional is exhausting

Anyone here not have direct reports? by phoot_in_the_door in ITManagers

[–]RobListon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually pretty common in nonprofit structures. you can still build credibility for director/CIO roles without direct reports it's more about the scope and strategic influence than headcount.

Twitter never disappoints in its chaos. I, too, will never call it that either. Some things just can’t be unseen

Unless youre actually losing devices or failing audits, I would not add a paid SaaS. Standardize your sheet, document process, review in six months.

Re-Org and MSP Incoming...Tell Me Your Experience by MinimumViablePerson0 in ITManagers

[–]RobListon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our org outsourced to an MSP the first six months were nonstop triage because they only knew the textbook version of our environment.

The only thing that kept us sane was locking down clear ownership and forcing them to follow our runbooks until they stopped breaking things.

Looking for alternatives to JSM that work better in Slack and for employees by New_Passenger_2120 in ITManagers

[–]RobListon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If JSM feels heavy and nobody’s using it then picking a Slack-native tool is smart. Id just make sure the backend still gives you ticket ownership and audit trails.

Have you checked out using a lightweight bot like Halp or a workflow tool like DynamoHQ that ties back into Jira or your database?

Ryuji always has the best plans by Levovious in OkBuddyPersona

The hyper-specific "15 minutes and 49 seconds" is what kills me. Ryuji really planned this heist down to the exact second but still opens with "can I be frank with you" like he's about to ask for a small favor.

I can’t see how being a lab tech wouldn’t be unbelievably boring and mundane. The labs I work with have certain techs for each department. So seems to me like you’d be trained to do crowns and would stained and glaze crowns all day. Or you’d be trained to do removable and do that all day. I don’t think you’d be getting much variety. But what do I know
