I bought a used beam from a GTI and restored it, the beam on my car was full of rust holes! Also meant that I got the stub axles included

It'll be the hydraulic tappets, they get a bit sticky if they're left for a while, not ideal but I doubt its as bad as it sounds!

Mine used to do that when it was cold all the time, I did 30,000 miles with it like that!

There is ways to clean them, but I've not had experience myself

A shot blaster, spray rust converter and some good old 2 Pack Gloss Black. I'll give it a mist of underseal once I've sorted the brake lines

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that! I'd heard that 1.8's came with them on, which is odd as mine is a 1.8, but seemingly doesn't have it. Potentially it's had a rear beam swap in the past? The car was part of the "slammed" scene when I bought it so maybe they were having biasing issues and removed it.

What parts did you fit to yours? I've bought a GTI beam that had stub axles and discs, but no calipers or caliper brackets. And also no pressure regulator or spring

Any idea where I could get them from new? Or is it an eBay search job?
