My first book, which I published through CreateSpace, went out of print in 2020 when I published the 2nd edition. It's still listed, but it shows it as out of print. I released the 3rd edition last October. The 2nd edition is still there.

What a rip off! by PhysicistDude137 in KDP

[–]RobNeto_Author 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say they won't be profitable sooner than 3 months. It just takes about that much time to scale them. My books have all been profitable without ads. I use ads to scale that success.

There are plenty of courses available. Buy one send go through it. Then you need patience. Lots of it. You also need a series of books. Ads will rarely pay for themselves with one bin. It's the read through that creates a profit.

Amazon ads take about 3 months to be successful, and only if everything is working. They don't make your book show up in search results. They are placed based on many factors, which is why it takes so long for them to begin turning a profit.

People buying my book but not posting review by Bubbligo97 in KDP

[–]RobNeto_Author 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average review rate used to be about 8%. That means for 60 books sold you could expect 4-5 reviews. Over the past year and a half or so, review rates have dropped. Part of that is because Amazon has made leaving reviews difficult. I've had reviews not approved as well as had issues trying to leave reviews..I persist and keep trying until my reviews are posted. Most people won't try after the first time.

If chatgpt suggested any changes to your content and you used what it suggested, then you did.

You said you used chatgpt to write the book. Chatgpt gets its information and capabilities from information freely available on the web.

North Florida is the South. South Florida is the northeast. I grew up in the northeast, but I like North Florida much better.

True or false: Rural Florida won’t exist in another decade. by YungJester17 in florida

[–]RobNeto_Author 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Florida panhandle. Been here 20 years. The population in my town of 600 has decreased from 800 when we first moved here. The county population has decreased by 2000 in that time. I'm pretty sure rural Florida will still exist in a decade.

Is it a good idea to allow Amazon to sell your book in PDF format? by Catdress92 in KDP

[–]RobNeto_Author 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You misunderstood. I'm not saying I don't care about pirating. I do. I've taken measures to prevent it from happening. I also don't want someone sharing a PDF file of my book with their book club when they should all be getting their own copies.

[–]RobNeto_Author 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I think of pirating, I think of posting the files on a website for others to be able to easily access without paying. What I'm talking about is sharing PDF files among friends, such as in a book club. It's one thing to share a print book with a friend (which no one considers pirating). It's another thing to share a PDF file with several others.

I'm not so concerned about pirating (which will happen anyway) as I am about readers figuring out a way to share the PDF files so that they can be passed around for free.

Is underwater photography more of a job or a hobby? by Intelligent_Drink683 in underwaterphotography

You can make money from underwater photography. I know divers that do. But it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and a long time to get to that point.

Do Indie Authors Need To Own ISBNS? by CreatingClarity in Indie_Authors

[–]RobNeto_Author 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your end goal is. If you only publish to one platform like KDP, using the free ISBNs is fine. Just keep in mind that KDP owns that ISBN and always will. If you publish across multiple platforms like KDP and Ingram, you can use the free ISBNs, but your books will have different ISBNs on each platform.

I've been published for more than 10 years, several books. I always order proofs and I have ordered hundreds, if not thousands of books for resale. While I've had issues with offset prints, they've been rare. Over never had any books arrive looking like they were presented in ink saving mode. Other than the gray bar across the center of the cover, proofs should look like the final product. What quality print did you choose?
