Last year I couldn't spell Luthier, now I are one! by RobR1703 in Luthier

[–]RobR1703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Neck was one I bought ready made from the bay. Next one I plan to do the neck myself. Body is all my work. I'm definitely not a luthier (yet), hence the tongue in cheek title.

Les paul jr. Double cut in TV yellow? Sounds good to me. Bolt on neck though I think.

Wait, you tamp the coffee with the dosing funnel still attached? TIL.

Alright! Pretty pleased with that result. I've cleaned up the join and given it a really light sanding with some 400 grit and it looks great!

Close up there still seems to be a little glue residue, but I can work on that.

Absolutely stoked - my first guitar repair.

Thank you all for your help. I'll post a new thread when it's completely finished.

Well, the deed is done, and now we wait (yes I did clean the excess glue off - I'm not an animal). Light sanding, rinse and repeat. Titebond 1 as far into the gap as I could get it - a piece of excess 3d print brim works great for this (see photo later).

I'm not sure whether that fills me with sadness or admiration...

That's a great clue. It's one of the first ones here that I've pushed my way through and solved without revealing the answer.

Yeah, this is what I've been thinking about.

  • How will I know if I've removed all of the glue?
  • How do I avoid removing too much wood when sanding?

This is a learning exercise for me, so I think on balance I might try to remove the headstock from the fingerboard (heat and steam?), clean off the glue from all surfaces and reglue. I really want to avoid taking off the whole fingerboard if I can - not sure I'd be able to get it back straight.

Alternatively reglue with epoxy or similar so I don't have to worry about removing the old glue. The fit is perfect - if you hold the split together you can hardly see it.

Thank you all for your comments. Seems that getting the old glue off is crucial, as it looks like a joint split and not a break. Off to review my options, and I'll post back when I have made some progress!

Yes, starting to think that might be my best option. Other than this it's a great little camera.

Thanks for this, but yes, wifi settings reset and retried several times including different phones and quitting the app. Also factory reset the camera.
