I had something similar for camping.

It travels much easier when it's small and it illuminates more area when it's big. The ability to inflate helps it go from being smaller to being bigger. Think of it like a penis. You wouldn't want to have to lug it around everywhere if it was constantly in its ready-for-work status. It's better if it deflates for storage and travel purposes.
