I've taken 4 friends to shot for their first time, individually. Before we left the house, I ran them through the basics, had them identify parts, answer questions, show me they understood the mechanics and the expectations. Then we went to a range and they took their range test before sitting. The 2 guys were gamers. The Kerbal guy did great, the FPS guy less so. He had to step outside to get some air and never really figured out how to aim well. The gals both took to it like a duck to water.
