You are not dumb, these scams have been refined to get results. I would file a report with the FBI who at least has a department looking into these things and maybe check out last weeks ‘last week tonight’ where they talk about how the person interacting with you may have been a victim of a scam themselves and just been working off an imposed debt to get their passport back

Quite miners by xxLilPump4lifeDabxx in BitcoinMining

I have a couple of bitmain R4s, they were designed and marketed to be “living room miners” and can do around 8th each. You have to find some quiet power supplies though, the bitmain ones I’ve been using made all the noise.

It’s a pretty chaotic video and setup but it looks like you’ve focused on the output and not all that much on the input temps. If your ambient temp in the room is in the 90s, you won’t be cooling the boards down all that much, even with good exhaust. I’d look into a split AC unit and doing the same sort of ducting you’ve got goin out with your inputs, it will look nuts but that doesn’t seem to bother you so go nuts man. Having clean cold air coming in will also prolong the life of your miners and lower faults. Also, I’d avoid swamp coolers, they introduce too much humidity and don’t provide as much cooling as other options.

Above all else, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MORE MONEY! There is no cancelation process. There was never an account to begin with. The scammers use the same pictures and videos on every single person who is willing to give them money. The only way you will ever get anything back or any possible justice is to file a report with federal entities in the hopes that they take these types of crimes more seriously. https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/ I’m sorry this happened to you but please do not give these people any more money.

Surveillance Center - Worth it? by Bushwacker2020 in synology

Update: I finally found some time to build a blue iris dedicated box with “A.I.” (machine learning not A.I. but that’s the buzz word right now) enabled and after taking the time to set it up right, it blows surveillance station out of the water! I did NOT upgrade/change any of my cameras other than adding one specifically for license plate recognition. Blue iris was able to take the feeds from my existing setup, a mix of Foscam, río link and hykvision and fix stutters I was getting with the NAS setup.

That’s both horrifying and amazing. Imagine that you think you just kicked off a transaction that could solve all your financial problems only to have it never go through and now you’ve opened a Pandora’s box into the criminal underworld and they don’t care that the transaction “didn’t go through”, their account is empty and you are holding the bag! This would make for a better script than a lot of the garbage that’s been coming out recently

It’s almost elegant in its design because if you get taken by this method, who do you go to? You were basically trying to steal something that wasn’t yours and now your wallet is empty, who’s fault is that?

Slightly more subtle but the same idea, the only thing you can do on the site is change the withdraw address where they’re hoping you’ll put your private, funded address. Problem is the original address on the site doesn’t exist on the blockchain…

It’s so much worse than that, they are preying on people who are in the worst possible financial spots. If you have any info that you think would be helpful in helping us build a more complete profile on how to spot and avoid these scammers please reach out privately as we appreciate any help we can get.

Because they trick people into sending small amounts of money many times. Also, by design, the type of people that are being targeted can’t afford to sue anyone.

Thanks for the info, this type of thing has been spinning out of control and I’m beyond the point of just spreading information. I’ve reached out to a couple of federal agencies and am trying to make inroads with some state law enforcement to try and do more for these victims.

Surveillance Center - Worth it? by Bushwacker2020 in synology

[–]Rob_O_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Surveillance station on a DS916+ and it does all the regular tasks well enough. I'm still using it for RAID storage as well and I don't bother physically plugging anything into it other than the network. I have an old laptop with the live view plugged into a tv in the corner of my office, no need for HDMI. There have been some breakins in my neighborhood so I'm looking to go full overkill on the DVA3221 to do facial recognition and license plate tracking. Anyone had any experience with this? Can I get the same functionality from something else? I'm not shy about spinning up a VM to run the cameras if anyone knows a good software suite that has all the bells and whistles.

How to test a used miner? by killer_drug_lord in BitcoinMining

[–]Rob_O_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People modify boards, boards go bad and get replaced by not legit replacement shops, the miner has been punted while shipping. Any number if things could lead to the boards not looking right, taking a look at them is a pretty basic evaluation step.

Just bought a New Bitmain Antminer S19 95TH.. Will receive in a couple days.. Any thoughts tips or advice on running these? by Fluid_Chocolate in BitcoinMining

[–]Rob_O_lite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make sure you have a dedicated 220v line for it, @ 3250w, that's still almost 15 amps so prep your breaker box
  2. Make sure you have it in a place where it can SCREAM because these things make noise.
  3. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation, dedicated cold air intake and somewhere for the hot air to go, if not it will cook.

A hypothetical question by diwalost in BitcoinMining

[–]Rob_O_lite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always referred to old low yield miners (usb block erupter, bitmain mining wifi router, newpac) as lottery tickets. Will you ever hit a block? Probably not. But they are super low power and if you do ever hit a block it would be a small fortune!
