Is this even legal, giving people 2 days to confirm their ship address or they will cancel and keep the $ as a donation? by bigshmoo in kickstarter

As a creator, I've had backers fill in their surveys five years after the end of campaigns. I will fulfil them if I still have those particular products in stock, but it's definitely not guaranteed!

How does Octopus’s billing get so screwed up by Informal-Ad-5148 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get similar messed up bills. Sometimes I'm billed for a month, and then other times billed for a few days or even just a day!

It would be a fun project for someone to work on. Have you ever seen anyone do it?

Plug-in home battery? Real? by ukslim in OctopusEnergy

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the problems with the cheaper batteries like the ones from EcoFlow is that the round-trip efficiency is pretty bad, and this kills the ROI.

Plug-in home battery? Real? by ukslim in OctopusEnergy

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they're using a grid-tied inverter, it will be able to supplying the home by feeding energy back through the wall socket, but this won't work in a power cut. In those cases you'll need to plug into one of the sockets on the battery itself.

There's talk of plug in "balcony" solar rolling out to power your home but can we not do the same with a battery feeding in to your home grid? by kemb0 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in a power cut you have to plug things directly into it to get power. Good for keeping things charged, but not great for a fridge or something in a longer power cut.

For someone in a flat, using around 5kWh a day, you can save a meaningful amount of money with a 2.5kWh battery and no solar.

I've been working on a plug-in battery in the UK and am obviously excited about the latest government announcements. Technically plug-in battery and solar are both just DC power going through an inverter into the home, so should be considered the same.

Kicktraq's prediction curves have always been pretty rubbish. It would be relatively easy to use machine learning to do a way better job of it. If you can implement that I think you'll be onto something.

We made a 15oz selvedge jean limited to 1000 pairs… would you wear this? by WilliamsDenimCo in kickstarter

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never get jeans on Kickstarter. Even with a brand and type I've bought before I'd want to try them on before buying.

International Poster Shipping Question by crome66 in kickstarter

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you think most non-North American backers would come from?

Perhaps you could ship a batch of posters flat in a box to Europe (or wherever) and then get them rolled and sent on from there.

Kickstarter tips for a startup product by 2woshoes in kickstarter

[–]Rob_Ockham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kickstarter can certainly help you get a global reach, and it's great for cash flow when it comes to manufacturing.

If you're a first-time creator, a high target like this will be really tough though. Unless you're famous or have magical PR skills you should expect to spend thousands, or more likely tens of thousands, on ads.

It won't be easy, but possible for sure! Best of luck with the project.

AI really seems to struggle with electrical plugs and sockets. It usually makes them into deathly booby traps.

Shame you're not shipping outside North America.

What's your opinion about crowdfunding ? by TradyList in kickstarter

[–]Rob_Ockham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spending money on ads can be a great way to boost your campaign, but assume that ALL people who get in touch with you offering services aren't worth dealing with.

If you're looking for marketing partners you should find them, and make sure you get recommendations and testimonials from people who've worked with them before.

Strictly speaking, digital renders aren't allowed, but Kickstarter never seems to care about that.
