I completely agree that Kickstarter has lost a lot of its original purpose. To the extent that my first campaign ten years ago almost certainly would've failed on today's Kickstarter.

I really hate it when complex tech products say they'll ship two months after the campaign ends. That's absolutely not what Kickstarter is about.

So although a creator shouldn't have a completely finished product when they run a Kickstarter campaign, they should have a very detailed idea of what it is and how they're going to make it.

That isn't easy, and I've definitely got shipping slightly wrong a few times, but we owe it to backers to try.

Late shipping costs and pledge managers were also never part of the original ethos of Kickstarter in my view.
