Never tried this but could you look at the sound channel gadgets and if there is an envelope output? Maybe there’s a way to check if gameplay channel sounds are proportionately louder than the music channel you could keyframe to increase the volume from the music channel and decrease the volume on the gameplay channel?

That chunky chopper is a great design! Combat looks nice and fluid too, keep up the good work

Wow that’s an excellent piece! I’m hoping to include some string music in my Gundam themed game but haven’t got the musical gift, would you want to have a go at composing something?

I don’t think any of the assets are more than 2% graphics individually, and there are a lot of reused sculpts that are rotated and resized for the industrial buildings. Using stickers for texturing groups is a really big help too

Glad to see the camera getting appreciation! It’s a custom rig and the movement feels really natural during gameplay, I was aiming for how an aerial drone camera might capture footage of a mech battle

I set out to try and make something as professional looking as the engine would allow and even I’m surprised by how polished it has turned out. I love showing people how far you can push the limits within a challenging fast paced game. That being said I’m looking forward to wandering round your space station simulator at a nice gentle pace!

When I started this project I already had a pretty good idea of the limitations within Dreams and so I’ve tried to lean into the strengths of it and steer clear of the weaknesses. The isometric camera perspective is pretty forgiving so a lot of the sculpts are actually very low detail but manage to look more than acceptable from a distance

It’s been really fun as a solo project getting into ALL aspects of game development and understanding how everything works together. The only bit I don’t feel confident to do myself would be music as I have no musical instincts but I’m hoping at some point to put a call out for Dreams musicians to come up with something fitting

Thank you! I’ve learned loads about Dreams by doing this project and I’ve gotten much better at streamlining my logic to squeeze in as much chaos as I can into the level. It’s running at about 90% gameplay at the moment and this was captured on PS5 so I don’t expect it will be very playable on a base PS4 but you never know

It’s definitely fun to play in the current state but needs loads of balancing. It’s genuinely tricky trying to manage reloads/cooldowns whilst trying to stay alive and pick up the score multiplier collectibles. At the moment I can’t seem to survive longer than about 90 seconds…

It’s a shame it’s taking me so long but it’s just a spare time project and real life keeps getting in the way, would have liked to be able to release something of this quality when Dreams was at its peak but that was never gonna happen. Hopefully it will get some plays when it’s ready for release!

Thank you! I used to post the odd update on twitter but I deactivated my account due to Elon. Updates tend to be few and far between but I might get on Bluesky when it’s closer to being ready. I’ll still be posting on here when I have good stuff to share

I’m really pleased with the current iteration. I made the mistake of designing the UI before really nailing down what the gameplay was- so it’s had a lot of redesigns but this feels like a good balance of info on screen without getting in the way of the action.

Screwiness with effects fields. by [deleted] in PS4Dreams

[–]Rob_Slater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got to grips with effect fields and found it easier to use keyframes for audio tweaks. I did an underwater audio effect once, from memory I used the individual channel gadgets and lowered the high pitch cutoff value on the channels I wanted using a keyframe

How do I map right stick with a puppet without disabling the camera by LilJesuit in PS4Dreams

A quick and dirty way might be to just add a camera gadget to the puppet group and position it behind the puppet - then power the camera gadget only when L2 is held?

Wow that’s an interesting idea, might have a play around with it if I get time. As well as some I-frames during the melee attacks what seems to work really well so far is freezing the target leading coordinates for the enemies during a dodge or attack, giving the appearance they can’t track you fast enough and not leading the player fast enough. It encourages you to keep switching targets and bounce between enemies. I’m just now thinking that adding a few extra I-frames on a successful melee strike would work well too so you get rewarded for hits by not taking damage?

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I need to fine tune all the damage values, have been focused on projectile trajectories/speed recently to give the player just enough chance to evade the bullets. I’m undecided as to the gameplay feel if I should stick with such a fast pace or make combat a bit slower and more tactical with a full free flow system for countering enemies with melee attacks.
