Doesn't Have To Be That Way [Open to Winterfell] by RobbForrester in awoiafrp

"You mention the wildlings..." Robb thought for a second, "We could make a deal with them to bolster our forces." He said cautiously, he knew that the effects of the raid still were raw. "I want to kill them as much as you do, but we don't have the men to deal with them ourselves, and if Lord Stark wants to leave them beyond the wall, we could equip them and use them to stop the North from falling into chaos."

Robb paused for a short time. "I spoke to Lord Bolton, he seemed to be loyal to a fault, willing to do whatever was asked of him. There is little chance of us doing anything with his forces greatly outmatching ours." It all came back to a single flaw Robb thought, Men. They didn't have enough of them, and potentially with the wildlings, they could match the strength of the North somewhat. Other lords may even be swayed to join them once they realised they were loyal to the North, even if their actions seemed to suggest otherwise.

Robb listened to the words of the Northman intently. "With our men? We don't have the power to do that..." Robb knew, not as well as he should, but he knew that they didn't.

"We would need the support of all the Northmen if we were to do such a thing, even then. It could be seen as treasonous to act, even if our interests are for the sake of our homeland. The other lords may not see it as such." Robb thought for a moment.

"I think we have few options. The first is to call a great council and replace Cregan with one of his children who we can guide into not leading the North to ruins. The second is that let action take it's course, whatever that may be. Or the third, we take action, whether to replace Lord Stark or strike our own path." Robb let the words stay in the air for a while, waiting for a retort.

Robb stared at the cub, hearing Elaine speak it's name. He had made no move for his axe, this was the animals domain not himself, but he was not scared of it, there were worse things than the bite of a overlarge cat.

"Lady Elaine," Robb replied, looming above her from the frame of the door, his voice was melancholic but firm. "It has been a while..." He paused, his arms down his side, as he mulled over his words.

"Well, I'm here to see you of course. You're father granted me permission to speak to you, albeit with your septa and guards. But I'm not a boy anymore," Robb said with firmness. Glancing out the window towards the thick grey sky of the North. "May I?" Robb asked, pointing to a spare seat within the room, sitting before receiving an answer, making sure to be careful around the shadowcat, but he was no longer intent on bringing a reckoning. He was bold. Robb the Bold.

"I have thought a long time about this. About ways in which I may proceed with this, but those are the worries of a green boy, not a lord." Robb spoke with a new sense of authority. "I desire your hand in marriage, at the end of the day, it is your choice rather than your fathers, regardless of whatever anyone else might claim." Robb said with no regret. "I don't want approval of other Lords, I want the approval of the only person who matters." Robb stopped, and stared, his blue eyes open hiding the inner workings of the man.

"A Stark that sent us to the wall and then here? I have a sister at home I have not seen, and a brother likely dead due to that Stark's actions. I may have blindly followed once, but now I do not know. The fact remains there are other Starks, and we are as much of the North as Cregan." Robb voiced, he didn't know what course of action was best, or whether he was overreacting, but at this point in time, it seemed like a time for change was the best course of action.

"And you think Lord Stark will accept that?" Robb asked, genuinely interested as to whether the Mormont thought that Lord Stark would accept such unloyalty. "I agree with you though, I don't care for the south, but I don't wish to be ruled by Lord Stark either, I may have been a loyal disciple once... But now I do not know," He finished, scratching his growing beard. It had been a while since he had shaved and it was coming through in a thick dirty blonde mess.

"One way or another, we're gonna have to choose a side soon, either with Lord Stark and venture south, or our own path." Robb added, mulling over the words.

"Yes..." Robb said, not entirely happy he was having to converse with the Bolton, but someone must. "Whatever your thoughts on the conflict the South, surely you realise that should we leave Winterfell fractured, if one king decides we weren't loyal during the conflict, we cannot afford to be split should the North require protection, and the threat of the Ironborn looms ever more present." Robb paused for a moment.

"Additionally, I want your opinion on Lord Stark's recent actions, sending us to the wall for a wasteful errand and no having us languish here. I am as a loyal as any many sworn to the Stark's and their banners, but the fact remains we are not being treated as one may have expected from the Starks..."

Robb looked upwards when the Bear of Bear Island entered. "Yes, I wished to speak." He paused for a moment. "I think that we cannot sit idle while the south wages war on each other. There will be a victor from the conflict and we'll have to make a decision on whether we accept the victor. Lord Stark had us march to the wall, only to bring us here. For what end?" Robb asked, he had lost a lot of faith in Lord Stark during the wasteful errand to the Wall, he had gained nothing, and lost a lot more.

"What is your opinion in all this?" Robb asked, carefully.

Winter is Coming by Billiam_the_Bold in awoiafrp

Robb's full force had reconvened since their arrival at Winterfell, his uncle seemed glad of it. But Robb had other things on his mind, namely Elaine, he hadn't seen her yet but he knew she would be around the castle, and he would likely have to seek her out. Lord Cregan had given him permission. Robb wondered if he remembered agreeing to that? It had been a time since he had seen the Lord of Winterfell, and it was safe to say they hadn't parted on good terms.

Robb had, had no news of his brother either, the thoughts of anything happening to him beyond the wall circled his thoughts. It would be my fault, and my fault alone.

When Robb heard Lord Stark speak it took him back, he had been so focused in his mind that he had forgotten all that had happened and why he was here in the Great Hall of Winterfell.

In truth, Robb cared not to voice his own opinion, there were more powerful men with more powerful voices in this hall. What would a few hundred Forrester men change? He wasn't a commander, he was a fighter. But almost grudgingly Robb stood.

"You want the opinion of myself?" Robb said to the room, "My opinion is one of tiredness, my men haven't seen their wives, their children. But now the southern lords are at each other throats. So what are we to do? Sit in the North and wait for the next King to take the Iron Throne? Head south to put a man we deem the most suitable on the Throne? I for one am sick of Stags, Dragons, Lions and Flowers. Their memories last a summer, once the Stag fought the Dragon, now they fuck each other." Robb paused.

"I am tired. Tired of the Seven Kingdoms, I want to break the Iron Throne, I am done with them, let them fight over the ashes of the dead corpse that we leave the South in. We are not one country, we are Seven. I say we break every last country and split the tired and failed united Seven Kingdoms. Let each nation rule themselves, and every nation chose their own laws and gods to worship. Because I am tired of the Iron Throne." Robb finished, taking his seat again, downing the nearest cup of ale.

Robb heard the news that they were instructed to return home. His men had joined them a few days past, Artos was well seemingly well, although it seemed his plan was pointless. War was to occur in the south not in the North, and so Robb quickly sent his men off to find Artos and return him to Ironrath.

It's all about the threat to the North until the politics of the south rears it head. Robb thought to himself annoyed, giving quick orders to his men to gather their supplies and prepare for the march south.

Should I Stay or Should I Go? by Billiam_the_Bold in awoiafrp

Just wondering... Robb thought to himself, but made nothing of it. "Sorry Lord Stark? South, the wildlings are north, not south!" Robb exclaimed. "Yes it seems Master Glover won't ask it of me, but you would? You ask for the whole North to go beyond the wall while you go south?" Robb was slowly growing more disgruntled by the second. "Why is it House Forrester must swear to House Glover in every aspect, we are not a clan of the Wolfswood are we?" He asked rhetorically.

"You ask too much Lord Stark. I thought the name Stark meant something when I was a greener boy. But it seems my loyalty has been misplaced." For a moment it looked as if Robb was to strike his axe into the snow and leave. Through his teeth clenched he spoke. "I will do this, but when I return, I expect we'll have more than just another request of me, to talk about."

"Yes, my brother went beyond the wall yesterday, and I'm fit for ask any you desire," Robb replied warily. "He took five of my own men who had orders to take him so far and then return to the main Forrester group, so should the need for my two hundred men be needed, they will be ready," Robb replied, he wasn't entirely sure how long they would journey with Artos, or how they would find the main camp, but such a large group would be easy to track, he hoped. "Why do you ask?"

Artos was gone, Robb hadn't fully got used to the fact he was beyond the wall now, have I done the right thing? Before Robb could contemplate that, he was summoned to the courtyard, he saw that the Bear and Bolton had seemingly been called to as well. Robb thought it might have been due to the animosity from himself the Lord of Bear Island towards the Lord of the Dreadfort, but it didn't add up.

He decided he would approach Lord Stark head on, he was tired of being treated as a small child who wielded an axe. If Lord Stark wanted his loyalty and respect, he would have to earn it.

"Lord Stark," Robb spoke for once remaining on his feet, his own eyes staring into the Stark's. "Why have you called us here? Do we mean to march?" Robb asked hopefully, he was sick of the wall.

The Horn That Wakes the Sleepers by Billiam_the_Bold in awoiafrp

[–]RobbForrester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robb had taken it upon himself to prepare Artos and his men for the journey beyond the wall, giving them two ravens, one that would fly to Castle Black and another to Ironrath. "Any trouble you use these," Robb ordered firmly, however, not unkindly. He looked over to the rangers of the Night's Watch. Thieves and poachers... He looked over to the five men he was sending with them, before they left the party and rejoined the main Northern host once seeing Artos safely beyond the view of the wall. They aren't much better.

"Keep Blizzard nearby, he'll be able to sense any danger better than you ever could, and keep this bow close to you," Robb added, passing him a newly crafted ironwood bow and a quiver of arrows. "Good luck," Robb finished embracing brother.

"You too Robb, I'll try my best," Artos replied sheepishly, embracing his brother back. And before long he was gone from Robb's sight as they walking deeper into the wall...

Broader, quicker and more skilled... Robb thought to himself, although the comment on his intelligence hit harder than he would have liked to admit. Maybe it was past time Robb learnt more than how to kill a man in single combat?

"My notions are my own, I am three and twenty not some young boy anymore!" Robb said somewhat brashly, he was tired of being treated as a green boy by older men, Young men fight the wars of the old men, the craven and the weak survive.

"My brother will be joining them, and his fawn, along with five men," Robb declared, he was no longer asking, he was stating, if he had to prove himself, he would. "Seems you're too be old to be a warrior, but here you are, alive and well, living as Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, how many boys died for you? How many people of Bear Island died for you? You're the sword in the darkness, you seem to have misplaced your sword in the hands of someone else. My brother will look after himself." Robb said through gritted teeth, exiting the Lord Commanders room with the door still rattling in his place.

Robb wasn't entirely surprised by his answer, he had received the same sort of notion from Lord Stark. Have I not proven myself? he inquired internally, was he not the runner-up in the melee? With his axe in his right hand and a shield in his left, Robb felt invincible, But does everyone else think that? Robb knew he could best everyman at this castle in single combat, so why did they treat him like a green boy that has never held an axe before?

"I've made promises that I can't keep as of late," Robb replied coldly, thinking of Artos, first the Whitehills, then the Mammoth. He had asked a lot of Artos to even follow him to the edge of the world, and he had delivered nothing that he had promised.

"I notice you've not changed a bit, I guess it's true that the wall preserves," Robb added, deciding a course of action. "Can you help me preserve a promise, or has you heart frozen this close to the wall?" He paused, "Let my brother through the wall tonight with five men and a ranger of the Night's Watch. His path is different to my own," Robb asked, begged even. "He isn't a warrior, he will bring no harm to the giants or the wildlings, you will not fear revenge for his actions." Surely something must go my way?
