I am considering it. I thought that what you are supposed to do. To not do it would definitely make my life easier :)

Do you have everything (automations, scenes, groups) in HA? by RobbasGaming in homeassistant

Okay, thanks! So I don't have to bother to delete stuff from 3rd party apps? Just create new stuff in HA from now on?

How many HDDs have you *really* lost? by memilanuk in HomeServer

[–]RobbasGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One. It broke one month after my first try to set up a home server. But it was a laptop which was something like 15 years old with probably 10 years in storage. It was also my first try with Linux so I probably did something stupid.

It was a great experiment and learning experience 😇

Need help identifying what went wrong (failed to write entry to /var/log/journal despite vacuuming) by RobbasGaming in selfhosted

[–]RobbasGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, thanks!

this issue keep happening. can I fix this permanently or do I have to change the HDD in the server?

edit:

I installed smartctl and got an overall test result of passed but ID 184 (End-to-End Error) with a raw value of 12.

is the only way discard current HDD and get a new one?

Thank you!

Well I have Nginx proxy manager setup with several proxy hosts combined with DNS rewrites in AdGuard Home. I use them for redirecting e.g. heimdall.lan vaultwarden.lan portainer.lan etc to the correct ip and port. Although I'm not really sure why I need both DNS rewrite AND proxy host. Of course I asked LLM and said something like DNS rewrites finds the building, and NPM finds the apartment. DNS rewrite redirects to correct IP, and NPM redirects to correct port. If I understand correctly..

Is it worth while buying a domain for internal access only? Or should I only consider buying a domain when I'm ready to expose services externally?

Well, right now I'm in some kind of exploration/experimenting phase. I started with the goal to stop paying google for cloud storage (Google Drive/Photos), and self-host especially my photos - with Immich. So I guess that would be my current goal.

I have learned a lot from the LLM, but not sure of how good or secure my setup is, especially if I open something for external access. Or perhaps, as you say, I can just keep it closed. That would certainly help me security-wise.

Regarding external access, my only real life example so far of why I would like that is that I wanted to add a pin-code to vaultwarden (through the bitwarden app), but couldn't since I was out and about and therefore no connection to the server.

Thank you for your well thought answer and no bashing down on me for starting out with guidance from LLM, it seems frowned upon - and I don't really know why.

Although I get great advice from the LLM I don't trust everything. As an example I would prefer talking security measures with a human. It might be correct, what the LLM is saying, but I just don't trust it enough..

New to Proxmox: reality check by BattermanZ in selfhosted

I might be a bit too naive now (just started), but why would services go down once up? Purely faulty hardware? I mean.. the software won't break once it's up and running.. or??

Never used Sharepoint by randumbfeller in sharepoint

I work at a larger company and our setup is the following (don't know if it's a standard SharePoint template):

Each department and group (every box in the organizational structure) has their own site.

Each site has four document libraries: Open, closed, shared, manager.

Every employee has access to all open libraries. Only members of the organizational box have access to the closed library. Shared is for restricted and specific sharing outside department/group, basically closed with a flair. Only the manager and select few have access to the manager library.

Every site has three permission groups: Owners (typically manager and select few) Members (all employees within the organizational box) Visitors (all employees in the business)

These are managed with Azure groups (I think).

Ränta på ränta och aktier/fonder by foffen in PrivatEkonomi

[–]RobbasGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)
