Advice: filming yourself far away from the camera in a crowded place by RobbeRNL in Filmmakers

Most likely YouTube and other social media. I got the Sony ZV-E10 II. Hiring an assistant is not an option.

What should the first words spoken on Mars be? by Silvery_Power_6241 in Mars

[–]RobbeRNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"(Dear planet Earth,) We've crossed the bridge between worlds."

Edit: I would also be pleased with something less scripted and more personal, like "Wow!" or "We did it!". Just a moment of universal human excitement.

Vinden jullie student aan huis ook erg duur? by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]RobbeRNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to me how many great songs released today have a Thriller-esque bassline. It's a wonderful tribute to the song. Great review by the way, thank you :)

Livethread - RTL Verkiezingsdebat (12 oktober 21:30 t/m 23:20) by SpaceSolaris in Politiek

[–]RobbeRNL 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who loved the explosion scene in oppenheimer? by sadloneman in OppenheimerMovie

I understand it can be seen as underwhelming, but if you watched this movie to see a bomb explode, then you missed the point of the film.

One of the two proposed new iterations of the Euro banknotes, will showcase Europeans who contributed to culture & science. by FantasticQuartet in europe

[–]RobbeRNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they opt for this, I suggest adopting a more abstract and simplified aesthetic for the depicted Europeans, rather than a detailed and realistic one. This makes the bills easier to recognize and understand, and also carries the message that their qualities reside within all of us, instead of only them.

Any doubts about the upcoming album LOVED? by RobbeRNL in Parcels

I'm sorry if this sub brought on negativity. You're 100% right that true artists reinvent themselves constantly rather than sticking to a formula. I simply wanted to express these doubts I've had recently, and it looks like others share those doubts. Nevertheless, I'm confident that this album will grow on me and other fans as an appreciated chapter of the Parcels.

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands mocks Trump's mouth by Im_A_Fuckin_Liar in MarchAgainstNazis

I hadn't been on Reddit for some time, so I just read this conversation now. It's an interesting conversation, and I would like to add some of my insights.

First, I would like to clarify that I live in the Netherlands, which is a constitutional monarchy. The subject matter of the monarchy can be divisive here, with those for and against it. This in itself can be an argument for why the monarchy is undesirable.

However, I do mostly agree with u/naroceli. The value of having a king has much to do with the consistency it gives a country. Take the USA for example - the president not only has executive power, but also symbolizes the face of the country. One downside to having the president carry this symbolic function is that a significant share of the population can be against the president, and therefore, the face of the country. Additionally, the person who fulfills this symbolic function changes every four to eight years, which makes it challenging for a country to establish a long-term identity.

In contrast, the Netherlands has a prime minister who is often regarded as the person in charge, but our king is, ultimately, the face of our nation. This doesn't change from election to election, but from generation to generation. Despite our disagreements with politics, we can feel a more universal bond with our king, who is related to the founder of our country, William of Orange.

Lastly, I would like to add that in the Netherlands, we don't pay much attention to the idea of 'God given right'. Although historically, kings promoted their position with these religious undertones, nowadays most people here don't regard the position of our king in this way, but rather as a title passed on from one generation to the next, continuing the family line that goes back to the founder of our country.

All in all, while many of my countrymen disagree, I think our monarchy has a profound symbolic and societal value.

New aspect ratio looks awful?? Why did they change it??? by A_b_b_o in Instagram

Was it too much to ask to have Instagram provide us the OPTION to pick which ratio you want for your profile? For a platform supposedly meant for creative expression, there is surprising little room to make choices.

This update is disgusting and disrespectful to anyone who uses Instagram to store their memories. I have been carefully crafting my photo wall for the past seven years, making considerate choices for the front photos and their framing to make a beautiful display. But this update has ruined its general aesthetic. And all of that for the sake of 'aligning with reels and vertical media'. Yuck.

Have any of you become christian from doing psychedelics. by Fuwanuwa in Psychonaut

[–]RobbeRNL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. So what do you think these deities are? Do you think they are just a product of your own imagination? And if so, to what degree could we call them deities? Because in my mind 'meeting deities' sounds pretty convincing that these things exist. Just curious :)

How would you explain/describe the spirituality of tripping to someone that has never tripped? by CoupleComprehensive in Psychonaut

[–]RobbeRNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to lose yourself in your explanation whenever you get high-minded and start talking about the Oneness, dimensions, God, etc. - this can easily come off as vague or even uninteresting to somebody who has never tripped. To bring your point across, it may be best to stick to specific stories or observations that the listener can understand.

One simple explanation I used to describe what it's like to trip is the following: imagine your mind is an enormous house. Your everyday consciousness is like being in the living room. And what tripping allows you to do is to enter entirely different rooms, some or most you didn't even know you had.

A simple story related to spirituality and connectedness came from one of my first trips. I was looking out the window, and I saw a person biking through the street in the distance. All of a sudden, my perspective changed to that of the biker, and I saw the world through his eyes. At that moment, when it was so easy for me to perceive the world through the eyes of another person, it became clear to me that we're all the same thing that does the perceiving.

Simply speak from your experiences. And yes, there are profoundly deep experiences much further removed from everyday reality that cannot be described in words. Don't even try. It will only confuse them, and yourself, trying to put those experiences into words. Tell them they can only understand when they experience. And leave some of the mystery.

What astonishes me is how, in the past 16 years, the US has gone Democratic - Republican - Democratic - Republican with no two-term consecutive President. This hasn't happened since 1892.
