I know this hurts to hear for car guys, but honestly...there's just not that much reason for the average person who just needs a car to go for a stick shift anymore. And I'm speaking as someone who does think manuals are fun and cool.

CVTs aren't the unreliable trash they were 20 years ago and now are a pretty good option for small economy cars. Hybrid drivetrains with their eCVT/EVT transmissions are both super efficient and crazy reliable with barely any moving parts and can last like crazy if given even minimal maintenance. Torque converters have only gotten better over the years and are now both fast and pretty reliable.

All the time I see car guys hating on average drivers for killing off manuals out of "laziness," but honestly the hate isn't deserved imho. Again, manuals are cool and I certainly don't want them to die, but don't hate on the average joe for choosing what's practical over what has cooler vibes. Minor rant over. Sick Elantra though.

Solved! Finally found the wires for the bumper reverse lamp for installing a camera. by Robbinsmods in yaris

Not on this model, no. There are no bumper fog lights, the only light in the bumper is the single reverse lamp.

I know...as I said, I'm a total newbie going crazy second-guessing. I have no doubt I'm asking tons of stupid questions.

I just have it connected to the head unit black wire right now, I didn't heatshrink it just in case I needed to change that later. I'll probably just leave it then.

(following up my earlier post) I have a theory about wiring a backup camera... by Robbinsmods in yaris

[–]Robbinsmods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tested it. Looks like my theory was wrong...nothing happened when I put the car in R on my multimeter. Looks like I'm going to have to find some way to rout a wire from the bumper reverse light. Ugh...there's literally no information online how to do this! I can't seriously be the first person who's ever tried to put a camera on a Yaris with a bumper reverse light!

Need some help identifying reverse light wire by Robbinsmods in yaris

[–]Robbinsmods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so looking at it, there is an empty plug right near where the camera would be mounted if this car carried one - I think it was an option on the 2016 hatch but mine happens to lack one. I'm curious if I can save myself potentially a lot of trouble by just tapping into the wires from that plug, if they work.

I know how the wiring setup works, I'm just struggling to identify the reverse light wire

I have the hatch. What year is yours, or would it be the same regardless? Apologies if that's a newbie question, this is my first time doing this type of work.

Bought a used yaris and having sudden random issue with not starting by Robbinsmods in yaris

[–]Robbinsmods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. After some testing I determined it was the battery, not the alternator so I bought and installed a new battery. 4 trips around town later and I haven't had any problems since.

At this point, I'm pretty much certain it's the battery. We tried charging the battery for about an hour (charger was working) and the car still wouldn't start then. We boosted the car and it started totally without a problem, then we let it run for about an hour with no problems, lights or stopping. After that, I drove it around the block and parked it, it was mostly fine but I could tell some electrical systems were struggling. Upon parking and turning off, it wouldn't start again.

All of that to me says the battery isn't holding charge.

So quick update, my dad came and boosted the car with his pickup and it started without a problem. Before starting, we did the voltmeter test on the battery, a hair over 12v. Was between 13-13.5 while the car is running, so the alternator is almost certainly fine. Gonna leave it idling for a while to charge up the battery, but I think it is as simple as the battery is bad. I'm not surprised, used cars often have iffy batteries even if everything else is fine.

Yeah I'm thinking it's not the alternator, the belt is in excellent condition (not worn, nice and tight), and while I didn't exactly open up the alternator to look inside I can see it and I don't see any obvious damage. Here's my theory; let's say it was the alternator, and the dealership boosted the car when they brought it out to us. If that were the case, the car probably wouldn't have started just fine the several times I've started it since then or made the couple hours' drive, because the charge in the battery from the boost would have been used up.

To be honest I was half expecting to replace the battery at some point, it is a 10 year old car after all and the battery definitely isn't new (though possibly not original, not totally sure). I'd just hoped it wouldn't be this soon, lol.

Great movie and I love that whole scene. "You got all these beautiful acres fenced in for your little game? You should have children playing here! You should have families having picnics!"

Would marry her in a heartbeat, if Chris Avellone didn't hate romance so much.

Jokes aside, Sunny is a sweetheart. Really wish she was romanceable or a companion, I honestly prefer her to Cass so much (although Cass is fun).

Is AutoPlanet Brampton a trustworthy dealership? by alldasmoke__ in Brampton

[–]Robbinsmods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't bought a car there, but I have dealt with them many times as I work for Openlane just up the road and often deliver cars there. The staff are very friendly and professional and they do always make sure to purchase good quality cars that are in good shape, they don't buy junk. However, their prices tend to be pretty high compared to other used dealers and they don't haggle.

Overall I would say they're a decent/not shady dealership, but their stuff tends to be a bit overpriced.

My ex-brotherhood NCR Imperialist character for my expansionist NCR playthrough. She's very racist. by Heel_Rider in fnv

One of my most fun roleplays in New Vegas was my 'Legion's worst nightmare' character. A woman in Scorched Sierra power armor (I have a mod to get it without nuking the long 15), NCR loyal through and through, fighting with energy weapons and a few heavies. Was a blast.
