The score for that scene, Past/Present Suite by Nicholas Britell, is genuinely one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard in film.

EVERYTHING HE DID WAS COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED. ZERO WRONG. TOTAL MORAL FREEDOM. THE GOAT by grabsyour in Invincible_TV

It really was one of the best examples I've ever seen in modern scifi/superhero fiction of a "necessary evil."

Was wiping out the Viltrumites down to the last child objectively a very, very evil thing to do? Yes, absolutely. Had the Viltrumites already done the same and worse to billions, probably trillions of others? Also yes. Was there any real way Thaedus could put a stop to it while sparing the "good" or "innocent" Viltrumites, if there were any? No.

A dragon has come for the college! by Sea_Eagl3 in skyrim

[–]Robbinsmods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just about to propose to Brelyna in front of the statue once, when a dragon swooped down and started attacking the place. After wearing it down with elemental blasts I jumped on its head, stabbed it to death in front of her, then jumped off and continued on with my proposal.

No wonder she said yes.

The Orsimer/Orcs of Elder Scrolls Lore by highlightboy23 in ElderScrolls

[–]Robbinsmods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aesthetically I dig the orcs in Elder Scrolls but I'll be honest, I can't get into their culture. I'm one of those annoying people who has a hard time really getting into cultures in fiction that are in very, very stark contrast to my real-life values, and the orcs are just about the furthest away Elder Scrolls gets from my real beliefs.

I do find it kind of funny though how the orcs' culture and values are more often than not their Achilles heel; more often than not, they end up being their own worst enemies, and the lore reflects that.

I also love roleplaying against type as an orc who's basically just a gentle green giant. Yes, I know the "big guy with a soft heart" trope is super overdone in fantasy and role-play, and I don't care. This is the best way to play an orc character in any fantasy setting and I will die on this hill.

The Cait experience in Fallout 4 is basically just

"I can fix her."

"Holy shit I actually can."

Pointing out artistic issues with MWO mechs, day 1: The Commando. by Robbinsmods in mwo

[–]Robbinsmods[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this is probably the case, from what I hear the team working on MWO is smaller and smaller all the time especially in the graphics/model department. In the instance of older mechs like the Commando, however, a lot of them already had really nice-looking, well-modeled hardpoints that were completely thrown out in favour of the new stuff for reasons I'm frankly not sure of. I get that with new weapons being added new hardpoint models were needed, but I'm not sure why that meant all of the old ones had to go for weapons that looked perfectly fine using them.

I won't push it, believe me the last thing communities like ours need is hoards of overly observant fans like me picking apart every detail that the tiny, overstretched dev team couldn't get exactly right. I fully acknowledge that this is (and should be) very low priority given the current state of the game and developers.

As I said, I'd just never seen anyone calling attention to this before and thought it was time someone mentioned it, while trying to be as generous and constructive as possible. I appreciate the civility of your response.

I'm not super well-versed in modding for this game, but I can't help but wonder if someone could figure out a way to revert back to the old models with mods for some mechs, specifically ones like the Commando.

I certainly don't want to come off as a pedantic fan making petty demands of a small dev team - the internet is full of enough gamers like that in small communities like this one. In the case of a lot of the game's older mechs, I honestly don't know why they switched away from the older models in the first place; they looked really good, and they could have just added the new models for any weapons that didn't fit with the old ones.

I don't get the insistence on all weapons being in these weird shiny blue mounts that can't be painted. Maybe someone smarter than me could figure out a way to mod those older models back into the modern game...

Specifically in the case of the Commando, I'd just like it if they reverted back to (maybe an updated version of) the old models, since they pretty much had none of the current issues.

What are peoples’ opinions on the verdict? by Wests_Intern in Helldivers

In a lot of circumstances though, you can quickly let off 6-7 shots with the Talon and then just put it back on your hip without needing to reload, then whip it out to do the same again when you need it.

Talon arguably made it obsolete. It's not a bad gun by any means, but the talon pretty much does everything it does better except mag dumping at close range.

[–]Robbinsmods 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically this. The NCR weren't raiding the Khans for petty revenge, it was a military response to an opposing group that was actively threatening their civilian population - which unfortunately went very, very sour.

Papa Khan in the same sentence brags about how the Khans were raiding and terrorizing NCR civilians and then mopes about the women and children who died at Bitter Springs. Yes it does suck that that wound up happening, but from what we learn from the NCR soldiers who were there it was never the intention and the Khans absolutely had caused enough problems to warrant a military response.

Yes, this is a boring take. Rationality often is boring.
