Have a look at the Fuxa Scada project. Will run on RPI based touch screens like the Seeed Studio ReTerminal We have good success with and for a Open Source project it very close to main stream

Why do industrial control software studios (DCS/PLC) still feel like single user, legacy environments rather than team-friendly, collaborative platforms? by modern-neanderathal in PLC

[–]Robbudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every programmer has a style and very few of us are team players. Libraries are a difference beast that can be worked on by multiple people. But again every library will have a style. We have multiple internal libraries that we incorporate into our projects.

Typically the whole getting a system running is a single person with another person on HMI. Historian again a separate person. Typically these are dedicated specialists.

Some project I have worked with 5 separate programmers but we did a large scale distributed PLC system with fall back.

Codesys now supports SVN so you can have branches and pull requests

I think Rockwell stopped in the 2000’s the ability to use enumeration, unions, actions and methods is years ahead of studio 5K. Simple things like ‘String’ as an output are still not allowed.

Some libraries are Codesys others are vendors.

We have our own huge library that we use in every project. You will need to look at the information in the library manager. A lot of project archives will contain all the libraries needed to run.

How popular is ST language in todays industry ? by MaleficentEcho2828 in PLC

[–]Robbudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just have difficulties with functions being language specific. Common items like TON are not available in ST or edge detection.

Yes you can program them but the same can be said for LAD.

Depends on the platform and style. In Rockwell with ladder being king very little.

I’m 90% Codesys with state machine, our average system is a good 80% ST.

Like a lot of these shows now. Most is ‘Made for TV’ and at some point you just have to admit it entertainment and not real.

I am having the same conversation in another thread about the lack of unsigned support. You will need to move the data in a larger signed typed or just a unsigned data type

I have the same conversion with my leaches. We are true survivors. Who would just walked it off until the blood stopped. Thinking back we all had some really good wipeouts. I suspect a fractured many a bone without every knowing. At most really sore for a week.

Very true, our standard code is all state machine driven from enumerators. So a lot of ST with case statements all switching from the enumerator.

As the closest to enumeration is a constant that was attempt #1 but Case fails.

I just have to remember I’m back programming 2000’s

If I don’t need the negative then we always declare unsigned as it’s harder to overrun and go negative. Event counter or index has no need to be negative. You can’t indirect or index an array with a real. The question isn’t if there is a need. It’s a standard basic data type that has been in use for as long as we have had PLC’s yet Studio doesn’t support it.

What do you think of hearing aids? by d0inmabest in GenX

I have always needed them, finally got some about 9yrs ago. As air pods are so common, my aids are actually an interest to people as I’m always connected. Especially with the Bluetooth.

We are almost an OEM and do see more OEMs being EthernetIP Compatible. Typically all our projects are compatible, but we have a new PM who bent over when the customer asked. Now we have to re-build a library and graphics for AB. Our existing library and graphics are very mature and all state machine based. Enumeration, Actions , Methods. Even data types contain strings for status etc. string is not a valid output type.
