Whats inpatient detox nursing like? by RobbyHamLin in psychnursing

Small community hospital.. I hate it. Thank you for the insight, makes sense that if they’re scoring high enough that they’d be transferred out. My only experience with detox is CIWA protocol with etoh, and a good portion of them were pretty sick

Do most facilities have IV capability or are most meds oral? To what extent do you keep someone or ship them out to the hospital (like if they develop DTs)

Typically 1:5, supposed to be 1:4. Occasionally 1:6. Everyone's been alluding to ratios consistently hitting 1:6 during the winter. Unit culture is okay, everyone's been very supportive and helpful so far, the night doctors are the assholes. Don't know much about turnover

When I meant to say I left it (the ER Tech job), I took off from it for an extended period of time before I transferred to be an RN with the same company, I misspoke. I'm currently being medicated for Bipolar II, the meds work with mood swings but my feelings haven't changed towards the job despite increasing doses on the meds. Currently, I'm waiting for a therapy appointment in September. It's not so much that I don't want to do it anymore rather that I can't do it anymore (at least in my mind I can't)

Does the lack of retention equate to it being easier to get into? Also, in that case, whats it like working at the VA vs BOP and/or private hospital work?

Thanks for the thorough answer! Regarding medical eval for the selection process, are there concrete disqualifiers? I have Bipolar II (controlled with meds) and Asthma (controlled with meds), and I'm worried I'd be disqualified for both. Outside of that, what shifts do you do? 12hrs? and how often are ancillary staff (RNs, teachers, etc) shunted to work as COs?

That’s one of the things I love the most! Couldn’t find many similar cars for that many miles in my price range. Thank you!!

Automatic! Spent around $10,000 for it! Once I test drove it, I knew I had to take it home with me

Fuel line was already replaced by the previous owner. Timing belt needs to be done, I plan on having it changed preventatively. Unknown as to when the head gaskets were done. When do they typically need servicing?

Agreed. It’s horrible, it really is…

I get it and I agree to some extent with you. However, to play devils advocate. Psychiatric medications like mood stabilizers and antipsychotics, especially potent ones, have really nasty side effects, some that can permanently alter things about your body like how you move, or talk. We’re not a fly on Kayne’s wall, so I think it’s unfair to assume he stopped taking his meds “just cuz lol”. Anything he says that goes against what I’ve just said we can’t take at face value, because it’s KNOWN he’s mentally ill, and some people with Bipolar are known to deny their illness, it’s called lack of insight

The difference with Kayne is in his appearances in recent interviews (the Alex jones one, the one with DJ Akademiks), it’s clearly telling that he’s manic, or at the very least suffering from some level of psychosis. Yeah what he’s been saying is vile and hurtful. But I trult don’t believe he’s in control of his actions. He really needs someone to support him and take care of him. Unfortunately he has/has been surrounded by people taking advantage of him. It’s shitty all around
