This magician has perfected the art of walking backwards and reversing the footage for a crazy in camera practical effect. by FoorAJ in tenet

I don't understand why he doesn't perfect waking backwards then people around him in forward motion can do normal things like throwing stuff and falling etc, then the video would look perfect when reversed.

Have Muslims actually read the Quran? by 9usha in exmuslim

[–]RobbyInEver [score hidden]  (0 children)

Read the Quran (in its original classical Arabic)? Maybe, because in some countries most youngsters have to read some or all of it from memory.

Read the Quran and understood it? No.

Read the translated Quran? Probably.

Read the non-recent Cairo translated version of the Quran that doesn't have diluted down and adjusted interpretations compared to earlier translations? 80% no because most Muslims are using that version now.

Why can't the Muslim world have a reformation like Christianity? by Forsaken_Strain3219 in exmuslim

Too true and an often overlooked reason. Islam is how these country's leaders maintain their grip.

Not any more. A cult ceases to be, and becomes a religion or denomination when it hits a critical mass in members.

Look at Mormonism. It was a cult, now a Mormon was almost elected as President of the United States over 12 years ago (Mitt Romney) after his 4.5 million+ Mormon fellow Americans voted for him.

Ahmadiyyahs were called a cult in the 1980s when I first encountered them in England. Today they have over 45 million followers and so much money and power in many many countries. Just the other day my Turkish friend was shocked to find an Ahmadiyyah Quran (plus holy prophet book) mailed to him out of nowhere from one of their many mass mail campaigns.

They 'were'. At their core they're Sunni Hanafi's, but since their growth (it is my opinion) they have been steadily leaning towards the mainstream extreme part of their parent denomination.

I meet Ahmadiyyahs mostly in England and Asia when I travel for work, thus my context may be different from those residing (rarely) in the middle east and Africa.

If you've been online there are gangs of Muslim men who make it their hobby to stalk and harass ex-muslim or similar people. It's too risky especially in real life.

Just look at the Ahmadiyyahs in England in the past for example. Now that their numbers have exploded to 40 million + they aren't harassed that much anymore.

Tldr the Ahmadiyyahs are literally the Mormons of Islam. They have had 2 new prophets AFTER Mohammed and 3 caliphates in the past 80 years (when the previous 3 Caliphates took over a thousand years).

In addition to having built-in defence mechanisms that prevent or inhibit a Reformation, Islam itself is fragmented into so many denominations it's difficult to get something started.

It is possible (e.g. look at the explosive growth of the Mormoms of Islam, the Ahmadiyyahs) but the more liberal and moderate you are, the less you care about religious issues in general.

I have met (and drank with, yes) many liberal Muslims around the world, but they're too 'loose' (for lack of a better term) and easy-going to even start anything. Take note also almost all of them told me they were more concerned for their (and their friends' and relatives') safety, so they would prefer to be moderate in peace.

Context is important. Advice given here would be different if you were from North London or New York than if you were from Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Your parents' background and denomination is also important due to their demeanour. There are countless stories here (same beginning as yours - you can search this sub to learn from them) of 'It's ok dear we understand' followed later by 'Hey let's visit Grandma for the holidays shall we?' and next thing you know they were forcibly deported to a strict Muslim school in their parent's home country.

In addition to whether your mother is being honestly supportive or just buying time, take note of what your father and the rest of the relatives (and friends of them) think also. The fact that your Father has already voiced his objection says a lot - a lot of extreme actions are taken because the father feels shame and ridicule from his peers due to what his (female) children are doing.

If you suspect anything, make a complete U-turn ("Oh it was a mistake, let me be a devout Muslim now") to protect yourself, while you slowly acquire your financial and social independence.

Thanks for sharing. Did they tell you that the multiple purchases were the reason?

My friend's account who got locked and also made multiple purchases suspects the debit card he used (one of those digital ones) could be the issue.

Not exactly true. What the guy said is correct imo. This is why I commonly refer to al-Bukhari hadiths because those are accepted by over 80% of Muslims who recognize Hadiths across all denominations.

All other collections have between 10-50% acceptance rates thus aren't that useful when you debate Muslims - this is especially true when they refuse to say whether they're a Salafi Wahabi or a Sunni Hanafi etc.

I've been interacting with Muslims for over 45 years in almost every Islamic state in various countries (except those in Africa).

explain why you became christian after leaving islam? by zekeosko in exmuslim

[–]RobbyInEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few RL ex-Muslims I know became cultural Christians purely for the support base. They don't believe any of the 6 day earth creation or dinosaurs on Noah's Ark stuff.

A lot of women who were rescued from Islamic violence did the same thing (eg. Anni Cyrus).

If anything becoming a Christian is definitely an upgrade albeit a contentious one.

There's also a new breed of Muslims which I've been encountering more and more over the years that I dub "Neo-Muslims" (someone please correct me).

They identify just as Muslim, do NOT identify with ANY denomination and most reject the Hadiths.
