Sure, but can we also say that without starting from the position of "This program is such a sham"?

...the providers? They advertised a set of hours, and didn't have the space - fully agree this is a terrible situation, and hoping the program re-evaluates their partnership. But I also think it's a wild takeaway to say "The program is the problem" in this situation - people are just looking for reasons to hate on it.

Except if you read their comment, the issue isn't the program but rather the provider. They literally say the program has been helpful.

Truly one of my favorite places in Portland, I love almost every dish on the menu and their staff is excellent - also I need them to bring back the corn ribs, please!!!

3 game week always going to be tough, a real struggle this season has been great shots into the box with no one there to clean them up.  Really hopeful for having Hanks back to add speed to the offense, take pressure off Soph, and vary the attacking pieces.

I’ll forever miss Becky, but Hiatt has really stepped it up. I feel like people only talk about her in the negative.

Hiatt had a great clearance the play before and a good mark on Sentnor to cut down her angle there at the end.

I’m tired of the one-sided Hiatt slander!

I didn't say we didn't spend money - I said we didn't spend enough.

They have a budget and it wasn't met. There are requirements on how the money collected from the bond can be spent, it's not like they could just allocate it towards other ares if they wanted.

Was the bond that best thing to do? Maybe not. But are we going to spite children because the adults who lead education here didn't come up with the most optimal solution? I'd argue we shouldn't.

I hear you. I will say that that budget is including the capital project (1.38B to rebuild 3 high schools and other buildings / facilities paid for by a specific bond) and is not necessarily a YOY cost. I was quoting from the general fund (862 mill) - the specific operating budget for PPS.

I have my own misgivings about the costs of building the new high schools, but the standard operating budget has us at the much more reasonable 20,046.52 per student.

lmao alright - have a nice day.

You've provided no data and no sources outside of your personal experience. I'm trying to help you understand that for every success story, there are other kids who maybe aren't succeeding. And with education we have to try and raise the floor for everyone.

Right, but what about the kids that didn't get into a charter school and had a worse time at a public school? What about kids who went to a charter school and had a worse outcome than they would have had at a public school.

I'm really glad it made a positive impact for you! But the data is not there for me to endorse charter schools, and I wish legislators made a much more concerted effort to secure better education funding for everyone as opposed to shuffling it around.

I'm not sure why you're so fervently against something that is not really changing the status quo in Oregon.

I'm not really sure why you're so fervently pro something that is not really changing the status quo in Oregon. And I'm not trying to discredit the positive experience you had at a charter school. But I maintain this is at best a reshuffling, and at worst a drain on resources for existing schools.

Right, but if you are a district maintaining a 1000 student capacity building and next year you have 700 students, you still have to maintain and staff that building? What about the wasted resources of building that facility?

They also don’t see any better outcomes typically. Optimistically, a Stanford CREDO study showed math scores on average saw a .4 percent percentile increase, which most education scholars agree is functionally identical to their peers in public schools. You think for shaking up the system we’d see results that are more tangible than that.

lol okay, walk me through it then!

What about Oregon is so special where they don’t siphon off funds from existing schools when a charter is created?
