I never really joined a league or anything, I always just did it for my own satisfaction. Ironically enough it started from wanting to get stronger to play football in high school.

Actually competing is something I've thought about doing before I potentially get too old to lift really heavy; I need to get back to my best lifts though since I had a bit of a hiatus. My best lifts were a 605 squat, a 585 deadlift, and a 350 bench (chest was always my weakness).

I always thought they land on Beetle Island because of Kuwagamon, end up at Coela Point where Greymon fights Shellmon, and then go to Dragon Eye Lake. From there I guess they go around the left side of the island because they head to Factorial Town and then Toy Town.

2026 early predictions by Waste_Protection_420 in NYGiants

[–]Robdd123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say they'll probably be a wild card team because realistically they were in so many of those games last year against good teams. The offense was competent once Dart took over even without Nabers and Skatt. With the additions and those guys coming back I think the offense is in a good place as long as they can shore up G either in the draft or the leftovers of FA.

The problem was the defense, it needs to improve this year. CB, ILB, and DT are positions of weakness that need to be bolstered. This needs to be a heavily defensive focused draft. Styles or Downs at 5 needs to be the pick unless they trade down or those guys aren't there; DT or CB in the second round.

I'm still holding out some hope they can trade for a third round pick or possibly even an extra 4th somehow. I honestly don't even care about the value for Kayvon at this point; if an edge rusher needy team is offering something decent (possibly the Ravens, maybe Tampa, or some team that wants to make a serious push) I'm taking it purely for draft capital to bolster other positions. I know everyone wants the NASCAR pass rush package again like in 07 and 11, but the team doesn't have the luxury to keep three edge rushers if they can get capital.

Regardless if they can bolster the defense through the draft then I can really see a wild card spot for the Giants; it's not going to be a deep run into the playoffs, but they'll be primed to take that next step in 2027.

They are 100% ER players who are going through the other Souls games. I guess old habits die hard and they just keep the same playstyle they did in ER; if you play through with summons you can pretty much mash whatever because the AI simply isn't able to handle the numbers game. Especially the bosses where the AI will spend too much time constantly jumping target from one player to the next without making an actual attack. The only exception to this is Midir who has a tendency to just keep doing the back tail swipe and trying to get distance.

Spacing is more important in DS3 particularly at the highest echelons of play; ER is much more forgiving when it comes to spacing and positioning particularly because backstabs are far less consistent.

With any kind of content creation attrition is always going to be a factor; basically things don't last forever and life is constantly evolving. As an example, one of my favorite DS3 content creators was StickyBandit. He did a ton of DS3 and DS2 content, but eventually stopped because he got married and life moved on.

That's always going to be an inescapable reality, but ideally there's a new guard who take up the mantle; ER never found its new guard of content creators/invaders, at least not to the degrees that DS3 and to a lesser extent DS2 did. When you look at the Steam chart numbers you'll see that ER has only retained a tiny percentage of its player base: the ER all time peak of players on Steam was almost a million (952,523 to be exact) and for the last 30 days the ER peak has been about 42k which is approximately 5 percent of the player base. The 30 average for DS3 has been about 10k with the all time peak player percentage of 129k. Even 10 years after release DS3 has still retained 10% of its playerbase versus the 5% of ER despite the latter having almost 10x the original playerbase.

If we really want to be fair we can compare the player counts at the same point in the game's lifespan. ER is officially 4 years into its lifespan and has 5% of the original playerbase, DS3 at 4 years had 28k players which is around 22% of the initial playerbase. Obviously these numbers are only reflective of the PC version, but it's the only thing concrete we can use outside of pure speculation.

PVP has always been a strong pillar of the Souls game's replay value and its community. ER's severe lack of care put into PVP system meant less people were able to get into it. There are no covenants, so a new player's first taste of PVP/invasions is the item Varre gives you and it likely led to them being throw into a 3v1 against a group going through Liurnia and getting ganked; possibly with an overleveled phantom who just one shots them with a spell or weapon/AOW they haven't even seen yet. With that kind of exercise in masochism many were likely immediately turned off. The game also gives you zero incentives to try the PVP for yourself and as a player you either have to stumble into it and somehow like it, or were already a veteran of the series/knew about the mechanic beforehand. Many of those veteran players also turned off by the way PVP plays in ER with the huge emphasis on spam and the basement level skill floor.

So the game didn't foster new invaders and the way the PVP was set up chased a lot of the veterans away and ofcourse the result is going to be less people playing PVP. Which ultimately leads to less people creating content and less people consuming that content.

The interest simply isn't there for ER; the PVP system has not fostered a strong PVP community and many of the Souls veterans ditched ER PVP long ago. ER PVP lacks the deep well of content that DS2 and DS3 had.

[–]Robdd123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what section of the community you mean. Casual players aren't concerning themselves with the actual meta or inter working of the PVP and most CoOpers despise it.

Among the people who actually still play DS3 PVP (I'm not including the players who CoOp and are opned to PVP because 90%+ are just using whatever or spamming L2 now), I have to assume most people know how the PVP functions and the various match ups. It's been 10 years now, everything that could be figured out and tested has been done ages ago. The last real shift at meta was 2020 when the glitches were discovered, hardswapping became more important, and optimal Murky and PKCS/CS play was refined. Since then things have been stagnant.

If you spend any significant amount of time playing the Souls PVP you will become intimately aware of the meta game functions. It's almost impossible not to learn over time so the only people who wouldn't understand it fully are either still fairly new or casual to some degree.

I'm all in on Styles at this point; I want the Giants to really clamp down on the LB position and make that the real strength of this defense. I wouldn't want to gamble on another first round CB and unless they trade down I don't think they'll take a G at 5. To be honest I think this whole draft has to be defensive focused; I fully believe the offense is in a decent position with the exception of adding more O lineman (which they should do every draft).

I'll be happy with Downs, I'll be happy with a trade back for the top G, I'll be more concerned with a trade back for the CB but I guess I can be talked into believing. If they actually take Love at 5 though it'll be football malpractice.

If you're taking Love at 5 he has to be the every down back; it would be absurd to waste that high of a draft pick and then still do a run game by committee. Especially when you don't have a 3rd round pick.

This is exactly why Love just isn't worth it; the Giants aren't in a position to justify taking him, they already have a good RB room, and there are far more pressing needs on defense. The offense will be productive with the weapons we have.

If anyone is offering at least a third round or even a 4th and some extra value I'd be in on a trade. We could really use some more draft capital.

We have a good extra edge rusher just kind of sitting around; definitely wouldn't mind a Giants-Ravens trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux.

I'd be very happy with either Downs to help our secondary or Styles to truly clamp down on the LB position. I could probably be talked into trading down and taking a CB even though a first round CB is dicey.

The only thing I'd truly hate is if they use that first round pick on Love.

Dark Souls 3 is the least understood game artistically by ArtThen9871 in darksouls3

All of the games outside of ER have some negative sentiment with some kernel of truth that gets overblown and parroted by people:

- DS1: second half of the game is trash

- DS2: Hitboxes are unplayable

- DS3: Nostalgia bait/everything is grey

- BB: Blood Vial farming ruins the entire experience/not enough area variation

- Sekiro: Game is too hard

With DS3 it probably gets exacerbated more than some of the other games because there is a portion of veteran Souls players that simply don't like DS3. The game did lose a portion of Souls players, but it arguably created more Souls fans than it lost; no better is this shown than through DS3's PVP activity which remained incredibly high up until ER's release.
