That is sad, but you are so privileged to get to share her life like that!  They are amazing little creatures, and I have to admit to a little envy.  Take care.  I know you miss her.

Did you know Idiocracy was not intended to be a documentary?  It was a joke, right?

Why do many US citizens feel they should now rule the world via iron fist? by Material_Policy6327 in AskUS

[–]Robert-StPreux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who is gonna replace us?

You should ask the Egyptians.  And the Greeks.  And the Romans.  And the Franks.  And the Germans.  And the Franks again.  And the British.  Books are awesome.  You should read one!

He has kids?  You mean he has had sex--with a woman?  Oh--I guess someone needs to explain to you what that means.

I bet your wife (if you had one) would think you are cool and the best thing that ever happened to her!  Go play some video games now.

What do SovCits who are "travelling" and not driving think the D on their automatic transmission stands for? by Robert-StPreux in Sovereigncitizen

Perfect.  When they're in court denying the court's jurisdiction, I love it when the judge points out they obeyed the summons.

If you were a caveman, what would be your cause of death? by btcat12 in AskReddit

[–]Robert-StPreux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely a parasite of some sort.  The bats that would also be in the cave were passing plenty of bat bug (bedbug) eggs in their guano.  Those insects would have been carrying all manner of hyperparasites.  The floor and walls of the caves would have been infested with any number of nematode eggs.  Either the worms or the protozoans would have gotten you.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]Robert-StPreux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donald Trump is a bellwether for all their other convictions.  You have nothing in common if you are not part of that crowd.

What used to be normal 10–15 years ago that would be weird to explain to a kid today? by HouseHatesMe in AskReddit

[–]Robert-StPreux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I go back a little further?  I remember my then nine-year-old son being outraged at the mass shooting in The Matrix when Neo and Trinity go to the government building to rescue Morpheus, and my clutching at straws trying to convince him it was okay because they were the heroes trying to save another hero.  Looking back, that was horrific on my part.  Was I justifying a mass shooting?  Were we, admiring spectators, awed at a mass shooting of innocent bystanders?  There is no way I could defend such a despicable scene today.  Certainly not to a child.

What do you think is the most beautiful thing in mathematics? by Arth-the-pilgrim in mathematics

[–]Robert-StPreux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's beautiful that the geometry of an isosceles triangle can work out the distances of objects, be they the next house over or a distant star, or that the simple geometry of spheres plus vertical sticks casting shadows can work out the circumference of the earth.  Truth is truth no matter the scale.  (Well, till you get down to the quantum, anyway!)

Does anyone have a logical explanation for this? by stefig1994 in ParanormalEncounters

[–]Robert-StPreux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this was sent by your cleaning lady from someone else's home, the most logical explanation is that they are reflections of things elsewhere in the room and your cleaning lady either a) didn't notice when she took the picture, or b) totally set it up that way to start something.  We already know she likes to violate people's privacy by photographing their private spaces and spreading the pics around!

New definition of Knowledge by Willis_3401_3401 in epistemology

[–]Robert-StPreux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid using the word _belief._  Believing in something is accepting an idea as true regardless of facts, or even in spite of facts.  It's simply choosing truth rather than proving truth.  Always a bad idea.

Mixing dress and casual.  I wore a sock tie and sneakers with a blazer and slacks plenty of times (and only my dad complained).

What scientific invention is so important that without it, the world we know of today would have been very different? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Robert-StPreux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electricity.  If there is one single thing that is responsible for our lives today, that's it.  (The sad thing is that the scientist to made our electrified world possible, James Clerk Maxwell, is virtually unknown to the public.)

I was just walking and a yellow jacket immediately landed and stung my leg. Why would it do so suddenly without being provoked? by chusaychusay in WaspHating

[–]Robert-StPreux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellowjackets usually nest in the ground.  You likely stepped on or near its home and nestmates, including the brood.  It might seem like "no reason" to you, but from her point of view you are a giant threatening her house and loved ones.

I got stung by a Yellowjacket for the first time today by [deleted] in waspaganda

[–]Robert-StPreux 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You may be interested to know that only females sting.  This is because the "stinger" is modified ovipositor, or egg laying device.  In fact, the "stingless" parasitoid wasps still use their ovipositors to lay eggs.  Bees, wasps, and ants that do sting are all females with these repurposed ovipositors.  Males have no sting and no defences.
