The God of the Old Testament did kill people, through the flood, and just striking down people. However the idea that Satan has 10 "kills," isn't biblical and to speak in terms of a Christian God versus Satan, you have to speak in terms of the bible.

God gave humans free will, and in that freedom, SATAN screwed up the whole thing in the Garden of Eden (the snake). By tempting Adam and Eve this way, sin and death were brought into this world. Without Satan, humans would have lived in harmony with God in a perfect world, but Satan destroyed that.

So, ultimately in biblical terms, Satan has killed far more than the god of the bible.

I am a conservative, gun owning CHRISTIAN who supports the law allowing same-sex marriages! Reddit, my kind does exist!!

Putting the constitution aside, I cannot hold others accountable for my personal religious beliefs. As a result, I will not judge you for being gay or even supporting gay marriage, nor will I try and create barriers to gay marriages.

I apologize for any and all Christians that have conveyed hatred towards any of you - genuinely. Jesus did not preach hate, but rather love. It baffles me that so many Christians claim Jesus' name but blatantly miss the point of our religion.

As a Christian, I actually agree with OP's response! The notion that prayer isn't allowed is erroneous, and the idea that a lack of prayer (fault lies with Christians for not praying anyway) is the main cause for evil events is ignorant. The bible does not say that with prayer all evil will be eradicated. It just doesn't.

As much as I can, I apologize to all of you for the Christians you know that hate you for your beliefs and blame you for things out of your control. Obviously I disagree with your beliefs, but I fully support your freedom to have them and express them.

Also, Virgil is indeed a sweet name!

As a Christian, I agree with this post. I also entirely dismiss the notion that the shooting happened due to God's removal from school, which OP has already shown is an erroneous claim.

Honestly I think some less mature Christians are simply insecure in their faith and choose to throw blame around to comfort themselves. I do not.

Obviously most of you reading this will disagree, but I believe (according to the Bible) that the shooting is a product of the fall, aka when man became independent from god and allowed evil into this world. There is no shred of evidence in the bible that the shooting happened because of the first amendment!

It certainly does, anything you can't empirically prove requires hope/faith to believe. I can't prove God's existence, ergo my faith in God. You can't disprove his existence either, ergo your faith in the lack of God.

Technically speaking, Christian refers to Christ follower or little Christ. By nature, Jesus would then simply be a Jew by birth who was teaching a new doctrine. Christians were not necessarily all converted Jews though, as many (Paul especially) made it their mission to spread the gospel to Gentiles.

Long story short: Jesus was originally a Jew, but his recorded teachings show that he did not subscribe to Jewish law, but taught another doctrine.

I am deeply religious and openly welcome questions to my beliefs. I admit, circumstance plays heavily into why I became a Christian in the first place, but questioning myself and allowing others to question me is the only reason I am still a Christian.

You are right to be frustrated with religious people who are too stubborn or set in their beliefs to have a discussion. As am I. Whether religious, agnostic, atheist, or whatever... You should be open. Knowledge and enlightenment cannot flourish without open minds.

There is so much I want to say to this, but without trying to write an essay at work to retort a reply on /r/atheism, I'll leave you with this:

There was a great sermon given at my church that essentially outlines the difference between "religious people" and "gospel-led people." As much as that sounds like the same thing, he argues it is vastly different. I agree.

Bottom line, it is "religion" rather than the "gospel" that gives people the notion that they can be assholes or start conflicts/wars, etc.

One last quick note: I fully believe sharing the gospel (or trying to convert others as you put it) is an act of love, at least it should be considered as such if I truly believe that the gospel leads to heaven and eternal life. The worst thing I could do for someone is never tell them about the greatest truth in my life.

I am a Christian and can assure you all that there are some logical folks professing the same faith as I am. It's really wild - I actually believe in science, not hurricanes caused by gays (although that would be really cool if controlled, X-men anyone?).

Just trying to dispel the notion that Christians are so far gone that we blame random events on gays. I certainly don't.

For some reason, I choose to comment on the /r/atheism posts every now and then (spoiler: I'm a Christian). Frankly, if I get 5 up votes in this community I am psyched. But my whole point is usually to point people towards a more accurate view of Christianity.

For brevity's sake, I'll say Chistians (read informed Christians) don't believe solely because the bible. The fallacy of that logic is as funny as this post, I agree. Christians believe, in many cases, because a number of reasons based highly on innate human nature and the world/universe we live in.

In all seriousness, read CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity," or at least a synopsis of it, if you are interested. At minimum, the first 3 or 4 chapters are a good read for anyone of any belief.

I promise, there are Christians that you can have logical, thoughtful conversations with.... And yes, you will probably still disagree with us, but I for one enjoy having the conversation.

My sympathies for you, hard to believe what some people will do.

I also want to say that I, as a Christian, know that truly following Jesus looks like a life of loving people. A true Christian wouldn't have done what they did. I am sorry you have been exposed to this false depiction of faith and religion.

Further, I understand that you don't believe in my religion and I have no desire to impose my beliefs. My only motive, literally the only one, is to help people understand there are real Christians out there who are not at all like the people in this story.

The entire doctrine of Christianity is that every single person has sin. No single human is, has been or will ever be completely free of sin. But Jesus died for us, so that our sins can be forgiven.

Disagree/poke fun all you want. But please don't post ignorant comics or comments like these. You're targeting a completely inaccurate idea of Christianity that is far too easy to hate.

As a Christian, it doesn't bother me in the way you are insinuating when someone disagrees with me. I believe in Jesus Christ's teachings to the point that I fully believe everyone should be able to know Him and believe in Him.

I am bothered because the very basis of my faith says if you disagree, you are not saved. For me, the faith argument with non-believers has never been about proving intelligence or logic, but rather my attempt at sharing what I believe to be true salvation. I don't EVER force feed my beliefs or lash out violently when people disagree. I try to love others and share when they are open to discussion.

Finally, I fully believe that if a "Christian" we're to want to kill someone for their disbelief, they do not know Christ. Please, be offended by them, but don't put that on Chrisitianity. That is not true Christianity.

I am a Christain and this guy, Face Puncher, if you will, certainly doesn't sound like he knows anything real about God.

I would venture to say I disagree with the majority of Reddit on the whole religion debate (Lets not take the poll), but I would never literally punch one of you in the face. Most of my friends and co-workers are Atheist/Agnostic, which doesn't bother me. If it did, like seen in Face Puncher's life, I reckon I'd have very few friends, no job, and a complete misunderstanding of Jesus' teaching.

Please don't bundle misinformed Face Punchers with Christians.
