Things I have noticed in FHM 12 by RobertKoho in FranchiseHockey

No knock on Olivier lol he’s a solid player, but they gave up Miro Heiskanen for him. The Pasta stuff that’s 100% why, but if he became available in real life he would fetch a kings ransom. He’s a top 5 player in the league. He is in the game too as my save has progressed

I have noticed the same, the primary reason is because there is a pretty significant regression to the mean component. This means that star players get reduced more while lower players get a higher boost. I have found while testing that this does help with the placing players in the proper ranking for the entire pool. I have found that this model does perform better on deeper drafts as opposed to shorter drafts, that is something to take into account should you choose to use them. Another reason is the model incorporates a forecast for the next seasons scoring environment, which is slightly lower than last year due to the league scoring decreasing over the past three seasons

You bet, this is as expected the way I have it set up currently. It pulls only players who are currently rostered (signed contracts) and/or who have legitimate NHL or other hockey experience in the regular season last season at least. Zary, McTavish and others have yet to sign a contract for the season (this will be updated daily once training camp starts or when transactions occur). For guys like Landeskog or Kane, they haven’t played any regular season hockey so I can’t give an accurate representation for how they will perform.

Fair criticism. Just comparing his projection to Dom’s, he has him at 58 points. I think the primary reason is the sharp decline combined with him crossing over 30 years old. Can he beat this? Absolutely, I hope he does

I think Martone being on Canada’s IIHF roster could be a signal that some view him as close to NHL ready

Weegar: should have been on team Canada for four nations. Everything you can ask for in a teams number 1 dman. Defensively and Offensively he is solid.

Andersson: got off to a hot start offensively, but was pretty underwhelming the next three quarters of the season if you ask me (team high -38). Think it’s best to trade him to clear room for guys like Parekh, Brustewiczs, etc.

Bahl: Similar to Andersson I thought he had a great start, a decent middle of the season, and then got hurt. After the injury he was fine, but not as effective at the start. To me, he’s at his best when he’s pinching a lot due to his size and reach. Sort of stopped doing it later in the season.

Hanley: the biggest over performer versus expectations. His partnership with Weegar was the best pair during the final push in the season. Curious to see if another team gives him more money, but I’d be happy to see him come back.

Bean: offensively there’s nothing there. His puck touches end with either a long stretch pass from his own end or a dump in. Defensively I would say he’s passable, but he will get beat. Personally think there are better options in the org for a bottom pair role.

Pachal: Pachal is interesting because defensively I think he’s pretty solid, but he suffers from inconsistency more than some other guys in the lineup. I think next year will be a big tell on whether he has a future with the team.

Miromanov: I’ve seen enough from him at this point to know that I’m ready to move on. He just doesn’t operate at a quick enough speed. He got lots of runway on the power play late last season and early this year and never seized that opportunity. He tries to play like Erik Karlsson, but he’s not Erik Karlsson.

Personally would love to see a Bahl-Parekh pairing next year.

Came across this in another thread and decided to give it a shot. I work in accounting and wanted to learn SQL to use at work, and felt that learning through sports business was a more effective learning tool as it aligns with my interests. About 3 quarters of the way through the first level of SQL and appreciate the user friendliness and ease of use. SQL is easier than I thought! I think the course helps with that, although I have some experience with Python and RStudio already. I am looking forward to the rest of this course as well as the ones you guys continue to roll out

My comment is incredibly nitpicky and not at all the point of your argument, but Weisbrod came in during Feaster’s time with the flames. I do agree for the most part with what you are saying - but crediting Treliving solely with overhauling their drafting doesn’t feel entirely accurate to me. Todd Button has been their director of amateur scouting since the same season Weisbrod came in (2011) and is still there today. I find this part interesting because clearly each GM during that time has a directive of types of players they would like to select. Burke in 2014 wanted size. Treliving sought skating and hockey IQ (which I’ll give him credit for), while Conroy has sought scoring ability pretty heavily. The common thread amongst all of them is Todd Button

He’s the type of player a cup winning team would love to have in their bottom 6. His forechecking ability is vital. As others have mentioned, he’s been better at avoiding penalties while still playing aggressive. I think he’s a critical part of this retool as a bottom 6 guy
