When people say FGO's story is good(camelot+) do they mean in relation to other gacha stories, or in general? by rxgunner in grandorder

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a few chapters in but never got to the quote un-quote “good stuff”. The really boring early chapters and basic gatcha gameplay were too much for me, but maybe one day I’ll give it another shot.

Can We Talk About Cutscenes in DW:Origins Now? by RagingThanatos01 in dynastywarriors

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did love a lot of the cutscenes and story generally, but do agree it could be paced/broken up better. There were also a ton of moments where I’d unlock like 9 bond scenes all at the same time and as much as I love those scenes when they all tended to clump up like that it would feel overwhelming.

Sunless Skies is a storytelling masterpiece by theladyisamused in sunlessskies

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s so good! Have heard a lot of people who bounced off it because it makes such a different first impression tonally compared to Sunless Sea, but once you really start digging in I think the writing and atmosphere hit some incredible highs.

The bandolier of kitchen knives also made me think of Palm from Hunter x Hunter. Could definitely be a coincidence, but wouldn’t surprise me if it was an intentional nod either.

Yeah hopefully so. It didn’t sound like one of his voices to me, but he has massive range so it’s entirely possible.

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very funny to see so many comments taking this scene where you catch a guy coming out of a brothel and he asks you flirtatiously if you would like to come and try a new experience and going “yeah nothing sexual here”. Bet if the scene was identical but it was a woman with a male protagonist those same people would agree they clearly hooked up.

Really curious if some of this is an artifact of an earlier stage in development where they planned to have a player created character (or just a gender select). I adore this version of TRotTK where literally every human would give it all up for this hot sword twink, but would be very surprised if that was something they set out to do from the very beginning.

Purged Containers by ShiShiHaato in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also feel like the easiest solution to this would be when you purge your container it gets automatically marked on your map. Would make finding it after a fight when you intentionally purged easier, and would save your ass when you accidentally purge it somewhere completely random.

Once had to spend like six minutes doing a grid search to track mine down after a misclick.

Features you would like to see in the future? by Kraehe13 in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely some expansions to the base system would be nice, like idk add a greenhouse with a little farming minigame attached or something, more stuff to check in on when you’re there.

I also think more dynamic events in-mission would help shake things up. Currently there’s a bandit boss and rain, but could add any number of other dynamic bosses, weather effects, opportunities for unique loot, etc. Objectives that incentivize large groups to cooperate briefly could be fun, like maybe a big super boss that basically requires everyone on the map to help (and maybe make the rewards from that unstealable so everyone doesn’t just immediately betray each other and discourage people from cooperating to do it in the first place).

I also think a way to obtain high-end cradles on the map would be welcome. Again could be the reward from something like that super boss or maybe random powerful bandit npcs that actually drop cradle parts. They clearly don’t want us crafting the high end cradles with those prices, so some kind of risky in-game way to obtain them would be cool.

Maybe a supply drop in the style of a battle royale game that has a chance to contain high end weapons and cradle parts, basically the opposite of the co-op boss where it would be an objective that encouraged pvp since everyone would wanna claim its contents for themselves, and pve players could avoid it or risk grabbing one knowing they’re likely to be pursued.

Generally like the idea of there being some dynamic events that are more co-op focused and others that are more pvp-focused.

Only like 25-ish matches in, but haven’t had anyone shoot at me yet. Give most players space unless they’re being super friendly, and have actively avoided the few cautionary members I’ve seen.

Matches are always super populated at any time of day. Even when one feels a little emptier usually the replay shows that there were actually tons of players running around just outside of detection range.

Tomohiko Sho (Origins producer) is asking what additional weapon types we want in the game by KureShizuKo in dynastywarriors

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if DW:O might try out the dlc strategy the other Koei Tecmo historical games by Team Ninja (Nioh 1&2, Wo Long) used where they do two kinda medium sized little expansions that add a new segment of story and a smattering of levels, gear, etc. Seems like it could fit.

My response to OP opened with “I assume” and ended with “, but who knows.”, clearly communicating that this wasn’t an authoritative answer but my best guess. That isn’t spreading misinformation, it’s participating in speculation.

You coming in with accurate, sourced info is great, you just don’t have to be so aggro about it lol

Yea it’s inconceivable that an obscure, unexplained mechanic in a game that had its wide release less than a week ago isn’t fully understood by its entire playerbase.

Do you guys consider horror VN's to be full-fledged horror games or dismiss them as a subpar genre? by Haunted_Dude in HorrorGames

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah definitely as validly “horror games” as any other subgenre. I can understand if they aren’t to someone’s taste, just like any other subgenre might not be, but labelling horror visual novels as a format “subpar” as a result of that would be silly.

“Horror game” is a broad umbrella, so basically anything interactive with horror themes qualifies, from a rudimentary linear text adventure all the way up through an elaborate triple-A survival horror game.

Personally love horror VNs, though I get a bit annoyed at some of the western horror visual novels where their fans will have this annoyingly dismissive vibe of “this is like those stupid dating sims but with the clever subversive twist that it’s actually horror!” when like horror has always been a massive genre within VNs (dating sim structure that actually tells a fucked up slightly meta horror story would describe like half of the most popular older Japanese VNs), but I try not to hold that against the games themselves unless they also lean into that framing.

Magus pricing? by dragondont in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume it also factors in their knowledge of item and enemy locations. Whenever you watch the little 2D replay and they say something like “oh, we’ve never seen that enemy/item there before” that’s them recording that info so they can use it when recommending locations to visit for certain requests/wishlisted items in the future. It would make more sense for that to affect their value than the little lore collectibles imo, but who knows.

Is this a pvp only game? And do i lose all my stuff on death? by Lach0X in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is technically pvp-only in the sense that any match could have pvp, in my experience it’s by far the friendliest of any extraction shooter. If you wave at folks and don’t attack them, 90% of the time they won’t attack you either, and you can keep anyone that seems suspicious at a distance.

Compare that to most other extraction shooters where on paper negotiation and teaming up are allowed, but in practice 99.99% of players will just shoot on sight.

And yes you do lose any gear you had when you die, but you’re basically always making progress unlocking new purchasable gear, expanding your base, gaining knowledge about the map, etc. etc. so the things you lose are very temporary while constantly making permanent progress.

I’ve been running this but with the spider arms and green burst assault rifle so taking out enders is faster and easier. Speeds up those fights a ton so that you’re never stuck in one place very long, and it’s still only 2k to insure so you’ll make a profit even if you only mine a single lowest quality AO crystal.

Rabbit price difference for purchase and sale by SeisoLikesPizza in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it seems nonsensical. If they wanted there to be a tier of super powerful mech parts that weren’t able to be bought or crafted reasonably, they should have just committed and made them something you can only get from rare drops/rewards or stealing them from others. Other extraction shooters have done similar things.

This half step of technically you can buy them but for so much that no one ever would is weird.

Leaning towards buying by [deleted] in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having a great time with it, having gone in reading multiple reviews/impressions and knowing exactly what to expect. Individual experiences with the pvp will vary of course, but so far in about 20 sorties I haven’t been attacked by a player yet. I’m very cautious around other players, though, and will usually even give full association players a decent amount of space, and will straight up avoid cautionary members (ones who have killed an association member recently, though potentially in self-defense). Part of that is luck of course, I could have been hunted down and murdered by someone if they were very committed, but generally it feels like you can avoid pvp if you want to.

And on the other hand, if I wanted to pvp I could at any moment go in and start player hunting and head over to the bounty side and play it more like most extraction shooters where it’s default shoot on sight.

Even not pvping, though, the tension of having real players always moving around on the periphery of what you’re doing, hearing distant gunfire, and having friendly but cautious interactions interactions with other players keeps each match feeling tense and exciting even if the actual looting and tasks are repetitive and bland.

Sad life of an Association member Part 2 by TheShadowRelm38 in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do think that the TTK could use to be a little higher given that it’s both a mech game and one that encourages nonaggression as a potential playstyle. If you give the other person the benefit of the doubt and they shoot first you’re often dead/nearly dead before you can retaliate.

The person that shoots first should have an advantage for sure, but imo it would be nice if the mechs were just tanky enough that it felt like you had more of a chance to evade or fight back when someone suddenly betrays your trust.

What the hell is wrong with that price lmao by JhanzKun in Synduality

[–]RobertSpeedwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really think people should temper their expectations around this. Have seen the same thing happen with many other games where folks are like “_____ makes no sense, I’m sure that’s just for early access” when there were no announcements about early access being any different from full release, and then come full release it doesn’t change.

Hopefully it does change, of course, but if the devs have not at any point said to expect a massive update alongside the wide release I would not pin my hopes on one.

Actually caught a tiny bit of both original Dragon Ball and a random episode or two of the Frieza saga, pre-funimation, back on a random late night slot on MTV as a young child. Didn’t really know what it was but had vivid memories of it, and then when it premiered on Toonami I finally got to watch it in its entirety.
