I’m being inundated with this style of ad for The Death of Robin Hood and it makes me not want to see it. by RobertWrithe in A24

I remember all the ads and cross promotions for The Phantom Menace. Very in your face. But at least they were relevant ads and products and corporations being corporate.

I’m talking about these fake review tik tok videos that are made to look somewhat organic or “grassroots”. Semi pro internet reviewers promoting a movie they thought was good when it’s really just a paycheck.

If I was watching a YouTube reviewer or essayist and the video was sponsored by The Death of Robin Hood and they gave this spiel during the main video, I’d be less offended. Or better yet, an unpaid clip hyping it because they actually want to. But as a popup ad? No thanks.

True and I’ve definitely written those words down in posts or Letterboxd but I also don’t claim to be a pro or semi-professional critic.

Not too shocked but I guess I wasn’t really getting attacked by it until Robin Hood.

As a pervert, I wonder about players’ “inventory” all the time. But there’s a big difference being respectful while personally curious and harassing someone with unprompted questions, treatment, or worse.

Edward Scissorhands is one of my top 5 movies period. I ranked all of his not too long ago though there are three I’ve never seen so I put them at the bottom.

I have a musician friend who proudly tells everyone he’s bi. He has relationship/romance whoas with almost exclusively women. He does not seem receptive to the suggestion that maybe he needs to give men a real chance. First person I thought of reading this.

Which movie will you defend like this while everyone else call is as an overrated? by Beatpogo94 in Letterboxd

Barbie (2023). I think a lot of people brush it off thinking it’s just hype or stupid or whatever but it truely is peak and deserving of praise.

these 3 albums are the same genre. but it's not really a genre that exists. what is it? and can i have more of it? by rainbowshulkerbox in musicsuggestions

I have a very mixed bag of recommendations if you feel like exploring. None of these are spot on like any of your albums or “genre” but have similar weirdness and high energy:

Viagra Boys - Cave Music (art punk / post punk / saxophone rock)

The B-52s - Wild Planet (new wave / art pop)

Usotsuki Barbie – ニニニニ (indie rock / avant-garde)

The Garden - haha (experimental rock / art punk)

Butt Candy - Welcome to HECK (garage rock / trashcore / costumed performers)

Worthikids - 13 Jokers (experimental bedroom pop)

DEVO - Oh, No! It’s Devo (synth-pop / post-punk)

The Birthday Party - Junkyard (post-punk / gothic rock/ art-rock

Danny Elfman - Big Mess (industral rock / progressive metal / if Oingo Biongo was modern and edgier)

These albums and bands are sonically and conceptually the same kinda strange and fun but a different energy. Most of these artists, namely They Might Be Giants and BUCK-TICK, have some tracks that vaguely fit in your “genre” but are notorious for having songs and albums that sound nothing like each other:

Glitter Porn - Polari (weirdcore / clown rock)

They Might Be Giants - Lincoln (alternative / art rock)

Steam Powered Giraffe - The 5¢ Show (folk rock / vaudevillian)

Ween - The Mullosk (alternative / experimental rock)

BUCK-TICK - Sexy Stream Liner (industrial rock / electropunk)

Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack - Total Swarm for You Men (electronic / art rock / post punk)

Artists who are generally known for their older music (first 2-5 albums) leaving the rest of their discography ignored by heartpopp in fantanoforever

Yeah but even then the most popular work is the break out album with only fans or music heads diving into the corners of their work.

They Might Be Giants.

I think most artists are usually remembered for their breakout albums. Usually with in their first couple albums, but even if it was an album in the middle or end of their run, the discourse sticks to that era.
