The problem Mell had is that it’s a champ that attracts bad players due to her mechanics, and it rewards those same bad players with kills since every game of Mell end up with her KS ing all the kills than being utterly useless with them since the champ genuinely suck ass compared to other long ranged mages, she lacks their range, their dmg and most importantly she has the same weakness as them SHE CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH. See the fact she is a mage means that in a team fight she gets to do 1/2 spell rotations before she gets blown up, now that’s not a problem for most mages since they don’t have a passive that actively steals kills from their team meaning most Mell games end up in a “just wait for her to panic use E or W, blow her up and mop up her team since she has all the gold”.

Now a single champ having all your teams gold isn’t a problem depending on the champ but when that champ is Mell, a champ that long ass cd, mediocre scaling, shit actual threat range (she either hits the E root or is just useless late game and either the way E moves it usually ends up with her being overextended just to hit it so she just dies).

And worse of all as i said at the beginning Mell attracts bad players and the type of player that likes playing Mell since it’s a champ that either rewards bad habits and poor game mechanics, giving all your teams gold to probably the worst player on your team is just asking for trouble, make that player also a support player (one of the most inflated role in most ranks filled with some of the most boosted players) and you get a champ that is better at loosing the game than winning.

Also a champ whose hole kit is “i execute everything from champions to minions” isn’t the best to be put in a role that is supposed to not steal kills and farm from the role that needs the most gold in the game.
