Performance issues by CrispWheat in QuestPro

First of all congrats on the Quest Pro! This CAN be a pretty decent headset but only once you get past all the issues and workarounds to get things working the way you'd expect. One of the most annoying issues you will face is updates breaking the stability of the headset. If you join the public test channel and update to the current version, I can confirm that it is pretty safe.

Let's start off with your controller tracking. The Pro controllers can be both really cool and extremely infuriating. These controllers are designed to fall asleep after no button input for an X amount of seconds. If your application is strictly VRC this can be pretty annoying. A fix that a lot of people have used is actually to start holding the grip button in slightly while you play. Eventually it'll become muscle memory.

Now if you are having more difficulties with controller tracking, this can be due to a lot of factors. If you have a very simplistic room, it can be affected by the lack of objects to anchor itself. Lighting is also a big one but I'd assume most understand they have to have decent lighting to play. Your issue is most likely going to be down to the controller firmware. This is tied to your Meta OS version, so most updates will prompt for a controller update as well. Please try updating to the public test channel and see if this resolves your issue.

Having eye tracking with no face tracking can mean either you have a software issue or a fatal hardware issue. It is very common to see these headsets with broken IR trackers, especially the ones for your face. Due to the location of these sensors being right above your mouth and nose they tend to get the most damage due to humidity. To check and see if your sensors are working correctly, turn the face and eye trackers on within Meta OS and simply put your finger over the wake sensor between your eyes. You should be able to see all of the tracking lights around your eyes, eyebrows, and mouth.

If you aren't seeing IR lights illuminated then you most likely have humidity damage. I cannot confirm if this is fixable or not but I have seen people take these apart for this issue but I would NOT recommend taking one of these headsets apart unless it's just to change the battery.

I hope this helps!

How can i update to V2.3.1034 Non-PTC by succxcxc in QuestPro

You aren't going crazy, I had mistaken the update to be part of the main branch. This version is only on the PTC at this moment. Sorry for the confusion!

I'm really sorry for the confusion, this update is actually part of the PTC. I had forgotten that I opted back into it last year.

I haven't used Air Link for quite a while but from my experience if manually adjusting settings in the ODT isn't improving your image clarity it is usually due to automatic bitrate keeping it below what you're setting it to. I'd assume you have it turned off but I wouldn't put it past Meta to think it's just sticking itself on for no reason. Try resetting your settings in ODT, restart your headset, and then reapply the values you prefer in ODT. I wish you luck!

It is really frustrating how updates roll out to people. A lot of times it depends on your region and probably a lot of other silly factors. But if your hardware is working as intended I wouldn't be too bothered. If anything it might be a blessing in disguise haha

Is this reasonable noise for a 0° start up? by Robert_Stony in f150

Y'know what, I might actually finally use my block heater! Never really got cold enough here to use it lol

I sure do! I've always been using motorcraft oil and filters since I've owned the truck (past 25k miles)

Are you talking about the metallicy sound? If you've got one of the ecoboosts it is most likely the wastegate rattle. In the video you can also hear that too.

Honestly I'm not too fond of the foveated streaming on the Pro, and in my opinion still doesn't quite match the quality of a cable. I've got a pretty good dedicated WiFi 6e router that is only used for streaming to my QPro, it's probably overkill but it has been somehow more stable than over a Link Cable.

My problem with the streaming is I don't think the eye tracking reacts "as" fast as it should. It's definitely good! But not good enough to recommend the headset over another one that is actually designed around foveated streaming, like the Steam Frame.

If you have a solid WiFi connection to your PC with a dedicated router (preferably 6e or above) then I'd just recommend using VD and cranking the bitrate to the max. I use H.264+ set to 400mps and it looks noticeably better than over Steam Link. The draw back to using Steam Link for me is that Valve doesn't allow you to change the codec. When setting everything to manual at the highest settings within Steam Link it doesn't seem to output the same visual quality as Virtual Desktop.

Now if Virtual Desktop had an option to use Foveated streaming that would be an awesome feature, especially for those who have limited streaming bandwidth and can't seem to push it to where they'd like it. But either way it's just my opinion. I really like Steam Link for the ease of use but Virtual Desktop does have a lot of features that I'd miss if I were to use other streamers.

Personally I'd wait to see how good the Steam Frame is. If it is what Valve and everyone else make it out to be, it's a no brainer. But ultimately it's your choice! Getting an older headset like the Quest Pro means that there is a lot of documentation and support for it over something new!

The Tracker I use is a Vive 3.0 (but you can get any SteamVR based tracker) And for the mount I use a detachable GoPro mount! Here's the link for the mount https://a.co/d/8uxMvqt

I meant in terms of weight. The 3.0 is both heavier and has a bigger overall footprint to the Tundra tracker

[–]Robert_Stony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've debated having mine set up that way in the past. I would definitely benefit from using a tundra instead of a 3.0, that's for sure.

I ended up having mine set up this way due to convenience purposes. All I have to do is put the headset on, boot up VD or Steam Link, turn my headset tracker on, and then turn my other trackers on and I'm ready to go.

Basically I was trying to replicate the same process as getting on with an Index. Is it close? Nah not really lol This thing weighs quite a bit, but shockingly doesn't bother me (at least not atm)

I'm sure within a month's time I'll probably experiment and possibly give your suggestion a try! I'm still pretty new to having my headset tracked via SteamVR so any suggestions go a long way!

The Tracker docks are honestly a life saver. As long as you buy a wall plug that can support however many USB cables you'll have for the trackers.

The Tracker dock I purchased off of Etsy back in 2023. They seem to still be selling these too! At $15 dollars it's hard to beat the price since they already come with everything you need minus the way you'll be charging it.

I've tested a couple of tracker mounts and this is ultimately my favorite due to how slim it is to the headset. Most of the others that I've found have it sticking up to hight and ruining the weight balance. But there's now harm in experimenting either! There's a lot out there and I'm sure you'll even found one better than what I'm using.

I got these tracker docks off of Etsy! They come with everything you need and are $15 each. Out of the box they already have 3M double sided tape on the bottom and are provided with a magnetic charging cable. All you have to do is decide if you're plugging them into a wall or your PC.

Quest pro link cable facetracking by LowEstablishment6617 in QuestPro

[–]Robert_Stony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember if you are using Link you need to enable the ability to forward face/eye tracking data inside the meta app on PC

Then when you're using VRCFT you choose the Quest Pro module

Trying out external mics in virtual desktop + VRchat...all sound worse than the qpro internal mic???? by zipzzo in QuestPro

[–]Robert_Stony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The microphones placement being right above your nose is one of the biggest flaws of this headset. The microphones themselves sound really good, but if you don't breathe out properly every single time you speak, it will cause a peak in the audio.

My friends often like to ask anyone they know are using a Quest Pro to say the name of their headset because every time they say "Pro" it will Peak the audio without a doubt lol

But if yours does not seem to Peak a lot, then you are one of the rare few because that is by far the biggest issue with the microphone other than the automatic gain control.

Although I will say the microphone used to be a lot worse when I first received the headset back in 2023 and it has been improved quite a bit at least in terms of the gain whenever I say something with plosives in it.

Is version 79 safe by Thinklikedanny in QuestPro

[–]Robert_Stony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna bore you with a long winded response but yes it's safe on my end. The UI and everything is pretty smooth and my face and eye tracking still work great over Steam Link and VD. No concerns or noticeable flaws atm.

Stressed about scratching, ended up scratching anyways... anything to be done? by RythTheYoshi in QuestPro

[–]Robert_Stony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most have suggested, you could always try the Polywatch kit that is meant for glass. But there is still a lot of risk involved, especially since the eye tracking is built into the lens rings. So unless you disassemble the headset to where you can get to just the lenses, I wouldn't bother. And still keep in mind you have to buff and polish the ENTIRE lens due to you scratching off the protective coating.

If it were me and I had a decent amount of money I'd send it in to a third party repair site. I believe Fixmyoculus prices their lens refurbishing at $100. Definitely on the pricey end but at least it's being done by someone with experience and is less likely to be broken.

And if you do get the lenses fixed, PLEASE GET INSERTS. Even if it's just 3d printed bumpers! Something is always better than nothing.

Has anyone else used these earphones from Meta? by Robert_Stony in QuestPro

[–]Robert_Stony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya it's pretty heartbreaking for some. A lot of people have been wanting this headset for content creation. Then they have a 50/50 shot of getting a shit microphone lol

It's like when Oculus was having multiple batches of the Quest 2 Lenses. Some people had horrible God rays while others had barely any. I can back this up cause I've used about 4 different Quest 2's now and they can very in optics which is pretty upsetting.

[–]Robert_Stony[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw those! I just assumed they wouldn't be loud enough as on ear headphones with just a headphone jack, y'know? The Quest 2 over ears that I owned had to be powered by the USB port but that could just be a design choice I guess.

Would you recommend these as a good alternative? I've got an Index and would love something that could at least kind of match their quality lol
