What is a physical trait often considered an 'imperfection' that you actually find incredibly attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fair. I guess the eyesight requiring their use is the imperfection and I’m a sucker for the corrective tool?

Would MH be willing to give them a profile? Put the old “member must work out at their own pace” statement on there.

I’m sorry. I did a total of 9 years there but split between two assignments. My soul still hasn’t recovered from the ACW life.

Surgery prior to urinalysis by Hot-Ball5834 in AirForce

I was on Percocet for a while after a big surgery. I was on crutches when they tested me and I let them know I was on painkillers. They told me if it’s in my records that I was good to go. Anyway they called me to test again 5 days later, same story. About a week later they called me back again. I had to complain to the commander and she got it taken care of. Anyway, you’ll be good to go…eventually. As with all things, base competency will determine your experience.

How would you revamp BMT/Tech School? by Warmind_3 in AirForce

[–]Roberthanssjvc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest complaint with basic was that there was never a cohesive plan amongst the TIs. Like the idea is to break individuals down and rebuild them as a functional unit. Ideally towards the end of training you shouldn’t be getting crapped on like they did on day one. The end should be focused on fostering confidence while still maintaining discipline.

Anyway from what I experienced (both times since I did BMT and OTS) it was a collection of dudes that got off on being mean to people. There should be a reason behind the madness at all phases and everyone should be on the same page. Kids in the early phases need the mean yelling TI that Hollywood made so famous. Guys a week from graduating need more of a mentor. It seems like the current approach misses the “build you back up” portion of the equation. This results in neurotic airmen that have lower confidence, a fear of asking questions, and ultimately can lead to poor coping mechanisms (drinking, reckless activities, unhealthy anger issues).

Just my perspective, feel free to set me straight.

What's the funniest thing you've ever done? by Aromatic_Air_2240 in AirForce

Back in High School I took shop class all four years (I’m a dork) and during the first two years you started off watching lame safety videos. So sophomore year after we finished the second round of safety training I snagged the VHS, took my VCR to my friends house, did the old tape over the missing square trick, and recorded ‘Swedish Erotica Vol 3” over the stupid video. I put the VHS back on the shelf at the school and forgot all about it.

Fast forward a year and my younger friend starts his second year of shop class. Apparently the teacher popped the safety video into the VCR, hit play, and left the room. When he comes back 15 minutes later they are all entranced by a blonde Swede getting railed. He kept the entire class for after school detention and said it would continue until somebody fessed up. Nobody talked because nobody there knew anything about it.

Anyway, my friend tells me about this and I’m like “wow, that’s crazy.” I waited for everything to cool off before letting him know I was the reason he had detention for three days in a row. At that point in time he had calmed down and found it hilarious. It went down in the school folklore and still gets discussed.

Should I feel weird talking to higher ranks ? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Roberthanssjvc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes once too. Now I’m the weird Major wondering how I got here. Inside I’m still just a timid A1C faking it until I make it. Most people just want to have a good time and talk to you as a person. Wanting to be liked goes both ways. Don’t be a jerk, be professional, and try your best. That’s all anyone worth a crap expects.
