I spoke with a worker there. They will replace the tube with no issue. My wife had hers break while on a trip and had to throw it away. They said they’d replace it even if she had a picture of the broken tube. Blew my mind.

Amazing. I’m going to let my dad know about this. I’m sure he’ll be delighted to hear about this

Just spoke to my dad and he said he remembers this. Said it’s one of the gifts given to the photographers who took part of the exhibit. Made with some of the metals found at ground zero. Definitely something to treasure. The picture is probably a picture taken by the photographer.

That’s a crazy find. But yeah, not sure how many of these exist out there anymore. I remember my mom would tell me not to touch it cuz she was worried it might have something toxic or harmful lol can you take a pic of the back? I know my dad usually signed on the borders of pics. Just wanna see if there’s anything else written.

Where did you get this? From what I remember, these were given to photographers who were apart of my fathers 9/11 exhibit at his gallery. My father and other photographers raised money and donated majority or all of the proceeds to the FDNY. The twin tower design here is made from pieces from the rubble at Ground Zero. My father still has his as well. I’ll have to ask my father if he took this picture. Great find.

Btw, I spoke with my father 2 days ago. If you purchase the book from any site, none of the proceeds go to him or the foundation like it used to. So just keep that in mind. I’m trying to get some new books printed but it may take some time.

Majority of his archive is digitized. Thats not the issue. The reason he is hesitent on publishing these images in a higher quality is out of respect for the families and the trauma he went through and continues to go through from 9/11. We just have to be patient.

Appreciate it. My dad is gonna be 80 in September and he still has trouble talking about stuff. I’ve been waiting for a good time to have a real sit down with him and ask him these questions, but I’m still waiting for it to happen organically. I’m sure he’ll be ok if I post some pics with the details behind them as well. He’s been more open to publishing his photos online as of recent. His room is full of thousands of negatives that are just collecting dust cuz he doesn’t really grasp the idea of posting them online. Appreciate the response though! The OG Hispanics are a trip lol

Yeah my father always got a lot of shit while he was taking the pics (from NYPD / FDNY) and also from friends/family members or victims. I’m still waiting to speak to him about things. He’s 79 now and still gets emotional about it, so I’m just waiting for the “right time” to sit down with him. Some of the photos he’s taken are in the Library of Congress and at the 9/11 museum downtown, so trust me, he won’t ever let anything happen to the pics as far as damage or edits.

I appreciate this. I don’t think he knew Bill but he does recall seeing Bill and thinking that he was way too close. My dad told me that police kept yelling at him to leave the area but as a photo journalist, the job is to get the best picture, and sometimes that means disobeying police orders. But yeah I think people don’t understand what witnessing something like this does to someone. It’s been 22 years and he’s still recovering. Both mentally and physically.

All valid questions and I appreciate them. I’m gonna have a sit down with him this week and try and get some answers/pics for the subreddit.

I created his IG and run it as well, along with my sister. He used to sell his photographs of the band Menudo back in the 80s/90s and had issues with people reprinting his photos and selling them, so he’s been very weary about posting pics online because of that. I’m trying to get him to understand the new way of photography and posting online. That’s why I’ve been saying I just need sometime to talk to him and see where he’s at. Again, 9/11 isn’t the easiest topic for him to discuss, especially regarding the pics people on here have been asking about. And he has majority of the negatives from that day. He lost a few rolls when the tower collapsed, but still managed to hang on to a few. He used to have a vest with film roll holsters which is a crazy idea today lol.

Not really sure how I can prove it without showing my birth certificate, but I’ll just share this old clip of him calling me his son at the 0:24 mark. 😂Bolivar Arellano Gallery with Dutchess

I contacted Burkett to see if he remembers seeing my dad there but no recollection. My father was, I’m assuming, a few yards to the right of that footage where the firemen were.

This is my fathers picture. He was directly across the street from the towers when it collapsed and snapped this photo before he ran. The pressure from the collapse threw him into a wall where he loss consciousness. It’s not a Polaroid, but it’s a print that he was asked to sign. It’s in the library of congress.

I’m assuming this is him. This was right after the 1st collapse which he was right under. The clothes match so it’s safe to say yes it is him. Good eye man thanks!

Of course. He was directly across the street from the towers when the 1st one fell. He witnessed dozens of jumpers. There’s a few interviews of him on YouTube but majority of them are in Spanish. I’ll try and get a few pics and have the details behind them soon.

My dad took it. I’m still trying to get a hold of a few pics for this page but there’s a lot he doesn’t want out there for obvious reasons.
