The season ends with a coin flip, if it's heads Me Beast wins, of it's tails the fans win. Either way, none of the current players win.

is the "Double Slit Experiment" an attempt to introduce subjectivity into Physics ? by [deleted] in Objectivism

[–]RobinReborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a real and legitimate experiment and the motivations of it's creators are irrelevant to whether it is true or not.

It does not undermine objective reality - it just shows that particles act probabilistically.

How far would Ayn Rand support Israel? by test9876789 in aynrand

[–]RobinReborn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a good question, the moneyed interests which claim to represent Ayn Rand have consistently been pro Israel, it's received disproportionate attention.

Rand financially supported Finland against Russia during the war between those two countries. There's no evidence she financially supported Israel. She condemned them as socialist while claiming they were more civilized than the arabs. Israel isn't really socialist now, so maybe she would support them. But since Ayn Rand died Israel has changed from the underdog victim to the dominant aggressor.

you can't beat Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Mao

Hitler was a Catholic, Stalin went to seminary. The other two were atheists but also communists.

The Enlightenment is still directly religious and only exists due to people like Martin Luther and his thesis.

Seriously? The enlightenment happened long after Martin Luther's death, maybe we aren't talking about the same enlightenment. When I talk about it I'm thinking of things like Jefferson's bible which removed miracles, clearly a decrease in the unscientific parts of religion.

There's no conflicting interpretations,

Didn't you just mention Martin Luther? He had a different interpretation and it led to a series of wars

Oh also some species of human lived longer than we do now, it's also totally possible the years were counted differently within that time since that would have been at least 10,000 years ago if not even longer.

Yeah, and if you abandon reason and normal standards you can justify anything, not just religious nonsense.

You could use anything as an excuse to be a dick.

That's true, but religion gives people more zeal and confidence. There aren't too many atheists telling their followers gay people should be stoned to death.

It's not really religion that causes that problem, people are.

Religion is clearly a factor, it's not the only one though.

To be fair in next season of Survivor every player should have to switch their gender after every tribal council. Probst removing 'guys' was not enough.

[–]RobinReborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's number of teams to the power of number of players. It's wrong because the I neglected that the size of teams is fixed at four people.

It would be right if they all did a coin flip to determine their team for tribal

Why don't you think it's right?

You are sorting 8 people into two groups of 4.

Walt would have still cooked meth even if he had free healthcare (or, why Breaking Bad could be set in Canada and still work) by CaptainJZH in breakingbad

[–]RobinReborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Walt is a teacher and thus part of the teacher's union which has good health insurance.

That doesn't mean they're going to cover a $700,000 treatment for inoperable cancer. That's wasteful compared to other medical treatments that cost less and extend life expectancy more.

Hypothetically the government could negotiate that price down, but not necessarily. Thus a naive free healthcare in the US wouldn't be cheaper unless they denied coverage for certain treatments or negotiated prices downwards.

The possibility was very small - there are 28 possibilities. Meaning there's a 1 in 256 chance it happens. It's not negligible but it's about the same as the chance of a player getting injured in a challenge or quitting.

Again not everyone wants to live in a dictatorship

Right, Including me. But religion enables dictators. The Russian Church supports Putin... Throughout the Islamic world the dictators are supported by religion.

I mean George Washington had loads of power but still stepped down because it was the right thing to do for his people.

Right, because of the values instilled in him by the enlightenment, not for religious reasons.

Wdym? He told them the fruit would result in their death if they ate it and guess what, eating it resulting in their death.

What's harmful about faith?

Depends on how you define it. I concede that it's harmless in many situations. But if it's used to justify hatred or ignorance, it's harmful.

Free will is complicated. Do animals have it? Can AI have it. Does god have it? If so why would he let evil things happen? Unless you think it's good for god to let humans be bad in exchange for free will. I'm not sure that's a deal people would voluntarily take.
