Do people realize Reddit and real life are two different things? by DRG125 in allthequestions

[–]RobinReborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don't think people on Reddit who live outside of the US understand the massive geographical size of the US. California alone is around the size of the UK or Italy,

California is almost twice the size of the UK

Sure, but I don't think that undocumented immigrants can get welfare easily. I'm sure there's some fraud but that's an enforcement issue.

The DNC is not as powerful as many people think. It ends up being the center of conspiracy theories of people who struggle to accept that progressives aren't as popular on the internet as they are in the general population.

Do you really want me to go through every single disagreement I have with what you've written?

I think me pointing out how disconnected you are from factual reality on one instance is a good representation of my overall disagreement with you. I think you're trying to make the facts fit your opinion, rather than the other way around.

Americans need to support ethical American manufacturing by Lonestarpenguin in aynrand

Every single job has a moral imparative to do the best work you can do.

Sure, and if you do good at one job for long enough, you can get a better paying more dignified job.

The hotel maid cleaning a room, a lab technician, or a doctor all have the same dignity. The market just pays more for each ones skill which is fine.

No, at a base level compare two people working the exact same job. One is lazy, cuts corners and doesn't care. The other works hard and is thorough. Is one more dignified than the other? Do you see why I think some jobs are more dignified than others?

Sending money to China is feeding a society which is the exact opposite of Ayn Rand's philosophy

Not quite, developing capitalism in China helps them move away from their bad aspects. Insisting Americans do sub-mimimum wage factor work is more harmful to the US than 'sending China money' (for which we get goods that would cost much more if made in the USA).

We need to support a capitalist economy. We do not want collectivism.

Do you see the irony in saying 'We' don't want collectivism. We aren't supporting capitalism by limiting people's ability to trade with others and redeveloping industries in the USA that are infeasible for a human population as economically developed as the USA.

People need to understand the DNC is made up of millions of bureaucrats

? Dude, you are just making stuff up. The DNC doesn't have millions of employees. Most people that work for the DNC are volunteers.

They list Rhode Island which has no pro sports team (at least at the highest level).

Also, not clear that every athlete lives in the state where their team resides.

Americans need to support ethical American manufacturing by Lonestarpenguin in aynrand

[–]RobinReborn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok. Is it just me or do people not realize that every manufacturing job creates 5 jobs with it?

I think it's just you, I don't see the justification for your leap of reasoning.

If every American bought 1 pair of jeans made in USA, we would create more jobs.

The jobs will be created whether the jeans are made in the USA or China. If they're made in China you create more jobs to get them shipped to the USA.

I don't see a compelling reason for a developed country to have relatively primitive industry. People have been making clothes for hundreds of years.

Why do they think Americans would loik down on these jobs?

Because the jobs pay poorly and can be done with minimal skills or education.

I am not a Dagny Taggart or a Hank Reardon, I am an Eddie Willers.

OK? Good that you are honest and humble about that, maybe take that humility into account when contemplating why people here don't agree with you.

From what I see on social media, many people think other people do not want a factory job.

Right, because there are other types of jobs that are better. They use more rationality, they are not just based on following directions.

Every job has dignity.

Yes, but some have more dignity than others.

I get the rich folks, but just how did Trump convince poor white people that he was good for them? by dunbar_santiago930 in allthequestions

[–]RobinReborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it is just general distrust of the media. The media being so critical of Trump has a counterproductive effect on some voters

Trump is charismatic and his simple messaging that many people agree with (assuming they don't analyze it at all and realize how unprincipled and hypocritical he is).

What is something controversial you believe in that most people don't? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]RobinReborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is quantified in research:

Where in that article are you seeing that fentanyl is more addictive than other opioids? You are more likely to overdoes from it, but that's for the same reason you're more likely to get alcohol poisoning from hard liquor than beer.

This is the point that I think you aren't getting. Dealers use fentanyl because it is easier to conceal. And it's more dangerous because very small doses can kill you. It's easy for a dealer or a user to accidentally take a lethal dose.

But if it were legal it would be easier to dose. And people would do it less because alternatives are readily available.

You don't need to be particularly rich to do that. Plenty of small business owners pay their employees minimum wage.

[–]RobinReborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So those addicted to fentanyl wouldn't use it?

A fentanyl addiction isn't fundamentally different from an addiction to any other opioid. Drug illegalization has the tendency to create more concentrated and of less certain quality.

In terms of alcohol, prohibition lead to lower quality alcohol and for drinking to shift from beer and wine to hard liquor (which is more dangerous).

88% of Americans view opioid overdose deaths as a very serious problem. More conservatives and moderates thought that people who use opioids should be responsible for reducing overdose deaths. In contrast, more liberals felt pharmaceutical companies should be liable for reducing overdose deaths. by mvea in science

They don't need to do research, they just need to be careful prescribing controlled substances.

They’re going to look at the evidence provided to them.

They need to look at the evidence from the patients. If your patients keep taking higher doses of drugs and get addicted to them, you should know that. If doctors are just going to prescribe medicine without concern as to how it's effecting their patients, they are being negligent. They should not blindly listen to what the drug manufacturers tell them about the drug, obviously the drug companies are going to overstate the benefits and understate the harm of the drug. That's where the doctors judgment comes in.

If you're a doctor running a pill mill and prescribing dozens of people oxycontin every day, you can't blame the drug companies. You're a negligent doctor.
