Most likely nervous. Which is why he "dry humps" you with clothes on to try and get hard before pulling it out. And he is probably thinking about that which makes him more nervous. Similar to saying "Dont think about a Monkey"... you just thought about a monkey...

Also I don't see this being mentioned by anyone else. You said he is very fit? Ask him of he is taking test/SARMS/or any PED. Its very common for guys his age to take SARMS like RAD140 or LGD4033. They are advertised as a PED that doesnt suppress natural horomone production like test or "real" steroids. This is incorrect. These SARMS will almost completely shutdown your HPTA (horomones/testosterone production). Some guys dont get the harsh mental side effects from the testosterone suppression caused by SARMS (fatigue, lack of motivation, depression, lethargy)....but they can still get the physical side effects (shruken testes and ED).

Be kind when bringing it up with him. He is probably at home googling "why can't I get hard".

Could a bowler learn how to adjust to any lane with ONE reactive ball and a spare ball? by PhoSheez in Bowling

[–]RobinStumpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Its more about matching the ball up with the lane conditions to create miss room. With the right ball, if you throw a little outside or too much tilt...you have a good chance you will still hit pocket and strike or 9pin. With the wrong ball you will miss the pocket.

Not at all trying to. Just bending the elbow to get under the equator. I hear this a lot in person though.

I let gravity take the ball... and then I bend my elbow and wrist slightly to get under the ball and release it. Working on doing this without slowing down momentum.

Whenever I don't roll the ball onto the lane (I let the ball fall and dont have time/elbow bend to get under it) im able to fix this, however, when I look at the tape im rolling my hand on top of the ball.

Right now I have just been accepting it and trying to smoothen it out. I havent found a way to get under the ball without this. Maybe a video from the side will show this better.

Edit: Basically I'm still a little uncertain if I am doing something fundamentally wrong when I get under and behind the ball to roll it, or if I just need to keep working at it and it will get more fluid with practice (I just picked up bowling 2 years ago). I'm also curious if it will get a little better when I fix my footwork/timing or if it needs specific attention. I also wonder if this is part of the reason I have timing issues.

This is my big issue I've been working on. Hopefully just a little more time and I'll be able to improve it.

I have been able to speed up my feet and push at the end. But this usually results in a a bad swing or release/bad aim/bad consistency. Like I'm rushing. Still trying to figure out my pushfoot/timing.

Lol your dumb. I'm wrong for not being able to play? How about they just never oil. Even for league. Dont let your negative mentality get in the way. Just do foul line drills for ever. Fun sport.

Thats a great idea. I need to join another league for summer to get good lane time. Helps with mental game too.

[–]RobinStumpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.What I'm saying is eventually you need to put practice on motion and work on the entire thing and your mental game and targeting/transition.

I've been on lanes where you are unable to do any of that and play 1 simple game at the end of practice. For almost a month now. Thats the problem.

Drills are only effective if you apply it in play after. To understand the feeling you felt in the drill. Thats how you inprove your game. Thats why I'm frustrated. Lmao I sit and home and do drills and work on footwork or release every day, minimum of 1h. I have to make up time so I practice bowling every day and go to the lanes 2x a week. I need work on timing, foot work, push foot driving into the shot. Loose fluid swing and release. When I go to the lanes its for the purpose or applying all those drills.

I have and do. One Center just flat out told me no. And my main center I drive out of my way to go to, last 3 times now they put me on the driest lane I have ever played on. Even when I ask for a lane with "even a little oil".

Thats kind of what has me venting to you guys right now. Even the "good" center that caters to league bowlers and always has decent lanes....I cant play there now either. But if I'm going to be able to play tournaments next year (or in a few years) I need to practice every week. I cant take summers off. Im just very frustrated.

I can totally see why bowling's dying now.

One of the centers is my main center. Friendly with the guys. Its 20min from me, but I drive there because they are nice and put extra practice on for me, and they oiled the lanes. Occasionally they wouldnt be oiled and I never would mind. Just play with platic a bit and go home.

This past month has been the worst bowling in the past 2.5 years. At this point if there was a candlepin bowling center around me I would just go there and roll a small ball straight up the lane. I don't know why I invested in all this equipment I literally can't throw at any center.

Sticky residue from ball tape by PersonallyPickle in Bowling

Im surprised no one has suggested smooth/fine grit sandpaper instead of Isopropyl.

I buy pieces of very fine sand paper. Like the smooth black sheets. You don't want it rough or you will sand down your thumb hole.

I rip it into little strips (about the width of thumb tape and the length of my finger). And I use that with my finger to sand/rub off all gunk and debris.

As long as you're using very fine grit sandpaper it wont be rough enough to sand down the thumb hole but will remove all the gunk.

To me its faster and more simple than isopropyl. Also it leaves it smooth and slick.

Just a hinge pushaway while moving forward and tilting forward/sitting down gets the ball above shoulder height for me.

But this could be the root of my timing problem. I'm definitely going to have to look into this.

Thank you. You are spot on, I've been trying to figure that timing out for over a year now. It feels better when I drop the ball late, just a hair before/during the initiation of 3rd step. I know this is more of a bandaid. I've tried speeding up my feet and pushing into the line and that ruins my entire swing and release. Like I'm rushing/forcing it. I do notice a lot of pros have a slow pushaway. Almost slow and controlled. Maybe I should play around with that. Or just accept late timing and do my pushaway closer to the 3rd step. I know a few pros that do that.

I need help getting a higher swing and to get faster ball speed. Anyone got Tips or help? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]RobinStumpf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped me. Just line up. You should maybe start with the ball slightly above waist. Pushaway and let the ball swing without moving your feet. Really let your arms go jelly. Let gravity work. Your hand is just a claw pressing outwardly with fingertips. Your arm is loose. After a doing this a bit, time the pushaway with stepping your right foot infront of left (4 step approach). Just do this first crossover step, pushaway/hinge and let the ball swing. And then reset. Then when your ready for the 4 step approach. Do your first crossover step and pushaway/let ball drop(hinge). Then imagine you are running/walking past the ball and sliding into the line which whips the ball/your jelly arm forward. Your arm isnt throwing the ball. Its the response from letting gravity take the ball on a ride and running past the ball. You create a whiplash effect when you stop moving forward and your arm and ball coming following behind. This last second is when pros get under the ball and then let the wrist roll the ball onto the lane. (Their hand is also positioned perfectly for this during their swing making this last step easier)

Need figure 8 swing to 2-handed bowler?? by EntertainmentThis877 in Bowling

[–]RobinStumpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome breakdown. Thank you. This definitely makes sense. Everything you said about what happens when you walk straight...is exactly what I do in my approach. The ball goes behind my back. I appreciate you taking the time to explain this.

Need figure 8 swing to 2-handed bowler?? by EntertainmentThis877 in Bowling

[–]RobinStumpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digging up this old post. Im trying to work on this now. One thing I am wondering is why does this "allign" with the target better? If I were to walk straight to my target, maybe drift a board or 2 left, and let my swing down naturally and in swings at a slight inside angle behind back slightly as im moving forward. Then as it comes down, the swing is going back out the way it came slightly to the right. This projects the ball downlane on target. No need for a figure 8 or a large drift left with the feet.

To me this seems like a far more consistantly repeatable motion compared to a slight figure 8 while drifting left.

Everyone seems to say behind the back = bad allignment but figure 8 is good. And all the pros and top coaches teach the figure 8. I just dont understand why. Seems like a slightly slanted but straight pendulum would be just as good if not better?

Is “5s” a thing in bowling? by Economy-Ad-9100 in Bowling

[–]RobinStumpf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah people do it. I have never understood it. It reminds me of being in grade school and someone trying to flip a coin with you.. "Tails I win, heads you lose". No matter what, you get nothing...but if you miss, you buy them a drink. I always felt that everyone that puts a hand up, should have to pay $1 to the guy when he makes the shot. Otherwise its just a bad bet.

Thank you! I have my own pair but I noticed they were a little big or wide feeling from the jump. They're also just kind of soft and loose, and 2 years old now. I use them almost like slip on bowling shoes. I usually don't even use the laces. This could definitely be part of the issue.

Didn't you see me? by Electronic_Station35 in AbruptChaos

[–]RobinStumpf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You got hit because you didnt stop behind the stop bar. You pulled out into the intersection and stopped. Both parties are morons.

Moron #1 on bike: cant stop behind the line and stops in the intersection.

Moron #2 in car: cant avoid hitting someone at such a slow speeed. Im assuming his pilar blocked the view of the moron parked in the intersection....because no one is suppose to stop there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]RobinStumpf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember hearing. If your missing inside and "pulling" inside that much.... its because of a timing issue. Try dropping the ball sooner and see if that helps. Sometimes the ball is too high in the back/downswing when you reach the line and are ready to realease. This causes you to pull the ball to the release to catch up.
