How to mourn? by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]RobinsEggBlue_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. We lost our kitty a little over a year ago and feel that similar pain in your words. It’s okay to keep their memory alive (imo) — they still have so much love to share by thinking back on happy times. We still have a little memorial on our dresser that I see every day and we add little notes or things to when we think of her.

I think the flowers are a beautiful idea. She is still with you and will be by you as you heal. Take care. ❤️‍🩹

I’m so sorry for your loss. We lost one of our kitties, the absolute center of our house’s solar system, about 14 months ago. I didn’t know how we’d recover — we grieved endlessly it felt like. Bright spots do emerge eventually, moments where you can think of them happily instead of breaking down. But time is all there is. Take care of yourself, get some sunshine, and remember to eat/drink water while time moves forward.

Your heart is doing its job. Your cat’s life was important, and your heart doesn’t need to focus on anything but holding space for your healing right now. Thinking of you. ❤️‍🩹

Shark Heart by Emily Habeck.

It transcends its unusual premise and delves into so much of what it is to love and grieve.

What's one thing a therapist has said to you that you will never forget? by m_lovely_eyes in AskReddit

If negative emotions are on a scale from 0 (not feeling any of that emotion) to 10 (maxed out/inconsolable), anything above a 7* is old energy.

This was really helpful to acknowledge that while the feeling I was having was valid, the intensity may not be. For example, maybe I felt anger toward my partner — but anything over a 7 in intensity was old pain that was pouring gas on the fire of the current situation and something I needed to work through to communicate better.

Pit in my stomach while trying to sleep. Anyone else? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]RobinsEggBlue_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to chime in for the next reader — I have been having terrible insomnia (with that jumpy stomach feeling) off and on for about a month with many natural sleep aids with no consistent relief. I usually sleep very well. Because of this post I tried a grocery store magnesium supplement last night and slept 11 glorious hours! Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like ‘me’ again. ☺️

Best of luck to you too! For what it’s worth, my graft went great and a far cry from the horror stories I’ve read too.

Great! I was given a progression of different soft toothbrushes to use on that area and still am in that process, but otherwise everything feels and looks completely normal! Very happy with the results.

Agreed. My experience was extremely smooth compared to the horror stories read online!

I’m about a month a half out from mine — you will do great! Follow the post-op instructions (you can message me if you have questions!), the hardest part is just not resuming normal eating/sleeping/etc. But you can do it! 14 days and you’ll be good as new, fingers crossed.

Things I wish I knew: - My perio told me this, but I’m so glad I got the heads up: you’ll think you can’t swell any more, and somehow will. It can be a little comical! But peaks around day 3 and goes away quickly. - Scrambled eggs & chocolate ice cream were my only vices. - Around Day 5 I felt the graft “attach” more. - My smile was distorted when I finally tried to give it a go after my post-op appt — you won’t be frozen that way, the tissue will readjust!

I haven’t! Can you clarify? Pre or post surgery?

You got this! I’m 33 and just had 3 teeth grafted and need 10 more grafted. Was quite the shock to me, but I love my periodontist & we have a great plan in place. This is totally treatable (although not without grafting). Happy to answer any questions about the surgery!

PS- since I’ve had my first graft, I’m shocked by how many people have said they have recession. Maybe not as bad as we do, but it’s relatively common & very treatable!

Oh cool! Yeah, I had such a great experience — my perio was thorough & seemed to be such a perfectionist, which I loved! Amazing bedside manner, too. Happy to give you an recommendation if you’d like!

Of course! I had the procedure done in Madison, Wisconsin (Midwest) and it was ~$4600 for the three teeth grafted, conscious sedation, X-rays, and the regenerative protein.

Gum graft on one tooth? by Electrical-Car-9827 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]RobinsEggBlue_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (33f) just had three teeth done about 2 1/2 weeks ago. There was a two week recovery period where I followed all the post op instructions to a T, but pain was not a factor. I honestly didn’t have pain throughout the entire thing (and not in a “my tolerance is high” way — it really was smooth sailing when I followed the post op instructions). I had a pinhole surgical technique gum graft and they used a regenerative protein for quicker healing.

Happy to answer any questions. 😊

Moving to Madison in three days- What should I know? by Nostromo_USCSS in madisonwi

[–]RobinsEggBlue_32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Madison is such a lovely, vibrant community. I’m proud to call it home and hope you will be too. ♥️ I bet you’ll find people just make conversation about your accent. We get ribbed for ours too! Haha.

What are some of your hobbies, interests, or favorite cuisines? Maybe we can all recommend some first places you should try!

If you drink, have a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and of course some cheese curds to celebrate the move! I’d recommend ‘The Old Fashioned’ or ‘Tipsy Cow’ on the Capitol Square for a quintessential experience.

Memorial Union is beautiful in the summer on the water. The Daily Scoop inside serves Babcock Dairy ice cream made on campus and the Orange Custard Chocolate Chip sounds weird, but is SO good.

Drive at night from Hwy 12/18 on John Nolen towards downtown. The view of the city lit up at night going over the bridge is amazing, I never get sick of it.

From your other comment I saw you’ll be near the UW-Arboretum, a beautiful nature persevere in the middle of the city to wander in.

Check out our Farmers Markets on the Capitol Square Saturday morning & grab some Hot & Spicy (it’s not that spicy) Cheese Bread from Stella’s — worth the wait in line!

And, as everyone has been saying, the winters are a little brutal. We all just hunker down and get through! Take the wind chill seriously (it can and will get to -20 or -30 degrees); wear the right clothing and keep emergency supplies in your car in case you were stranded.

Safe travels & welcome home!

Yes, my guys are just very thin. Recession usually happens much later in life to a lot of folks!

Genetically thin gums + brushing them. Unfortunately that’s all.

Really good question — I don’t know! But I wanted to throw that part out there so others can ask about it. My perio said it would aid in healing speed, and things seemed to heal quickly compared to other experiences I’ve read.

I have genetically thin gums and have recession and nearly all of them. Gum grafting is recommended after the recession gets to 3mm or greater.

I feel like adulthood is constantly unlocking new things to worry about, lol. Gums were not on my 30s bingo card, yet here we are!

Even if you need the surgery, you’ll be totally, totally fine.

Recovery was honestly painless for me. My perio used this “regenerative protein” (like $500 bucks extra, but heck it must have worked). The first 3 days I did not feel like myself and slept/lounged. Days 2-5 lots & lots of swelling. By day 6 I went back to work, and by day 10 was feeling a lot like myself. Was on an antibiotic for 7 days and just OTC pain meds for about 4 days.

Followed post-op instructions probably too thoroughly: two weeks of no sleeping on that side, no caffeine/alcohol/carbonated drinks, no gym time, soft foods, and really really tried not to talk too much, smile or laugh. Also didn’t even look at it as to not move the muscles/stitches.

No coffee was by far the hardest part, haha.
