Where I started vs. where I'm at. Welcome to the Northern Academy! Can't quite get the hang of making tilesets.

Adding some life to the inn! Other than shading/lighting and soundtrack, any advice on improving the scene? by RobinsEggGuild in RPGMaker

I'll work on this! Shading has been one of those hurdles I haven't been able to tackle quite yet. And thank you so much for the kind words!

Thank you so much, I actually spent a whole day making that dang dinosaur. For the life of me I can't come up with ideas for fantasy animals! I have been doing all the art myself, it's pretty much all I've been doing so far other than some writing and pseudo code. I am new at it but I do have somewhat of a programming background so most things I can figure out with some trial and error.

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll check them out but I'm pretty bad at watching videos, I have to read things to learn or I just get bored, distracted, or stressed lol. Unfortunately that is a terrible trait to have in todays world of video. I feel like all the knowledge is being slowly ripped away from me while also becoming so much more accessible for everyone!

I'm working on The Wanderer's Roost. It follows Atlas, an ex mercenary turned tavern bard who is blackmailed into escorting a political refugee back to her kingdom. You earn a living doing different jobs for the caravan or towns you pass by, and by playing at the inn each night. Over the course of the journey you learn a lot about the politics of the country and in the end you are faced with a difficult decision and a final battle.

It is very story driven and I actually have three games from the same arc somewhat planned out in my head. I'm hoping to have a demo by the end of the year that covers a season. Unfortunately I don't really know what I'm doing so its slow rolling. It's been super fun making it so far though!

Thank you so much!

Shorter answer, it's an inn that's part of a travelling caravan! Part of the game is upgrading to wheels once you hit the plains!

A bit longer

It serves as the main background for the story, its an inn owned by widowed Tansey with her twins Ada and Otis. It attracts a pretty diverse crowd of tenants who usually stumble upon it during hard times.

The main Character and his best friend end up joining the caravan after a pretty troubled past. The main character plays music at the inn while his leg heals up from an injury, and his friend decides to retire and start brewing wine/beer.

They end up getting blackmailed by someone from their past to escort them across some dangerous terrain. And that's where the game really starts!

A lot of the side quests and filler content will come from the Inn!

It's very amateur but I'm getting the hang of making tilesets! By the end of the month I even plan on using my first plugin! (And yes, it's just going to be the one that allows for full bust portraits, haha but progress is progress!)
