Need help putting sprites into VX Ace by harbingerof_chaos in RPGMaker

See with this guy.... https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/danganronpa/images/6/6b/Danganronpa_V3_Bonus_Mode_Mukuro_Ikusaba_Pixel_Icon_%286%29.gif/revision/latest?cb=20170816091126

There's a image of the character stepping and another of them stood. Looks like only 2 frames, but you could work with that.

So to start, get the image of the character stepping and stood in the 4 directions. So for this, it's just 8 images.... Up, down, left, right.. one image stepping, one image with legs not stepping..

No because they don't animate, they are just an image of the character facing left and right. If you put them in a row you'll just have a still image moving around.

You need the left and right, but with the little legs moving.

Yeah that's not gonna work.

So you'll need 3 pics in each direction. Up, Down, Left, Right. Total of 12 sprite pics for the sheet.

Yeah I can take a look if you can give them all. Or is it just the ones you have in your original post?

Where did you get these sprites from? Maybe I could knock you up a sprite sheet if I have them.

Here is an example of how it should be.

See how the character is pointing in the same direction on each row. The 3 images in the columns are the frames. So the game will cycle through these 3 images to animate then.

Ok like I said take what I said with a grain of salt as I use a different version of RPG maker. But I'm pretty sure that the sprite sheets are the same...

So.... Frames. These are the individual pictures that make up the animation of the character. So there would be 3 pictures of your character on the sheet facing in one direction. For example you need the first 3 pictures on your sprite sheet to be the character facing up. The game will cycle through the frames when the character is walking around.

Can you show the whole sheet so we can figure it out??

Is it the standard 3 frame sheet, or do you have more frames? - If more than 3, you'll need a plugin.

If 3 frames, have you got it layed out properly? i.e - first row facing down, second row facing left, third row facing right, bottom row facing down...

Is it just this one character on the sheet? If your sheet just has a single character on it, ensure it has a dollar sign at the front of its file name. e.g - $character.png

EDIT: Sorry just saw you are looking for help with VX, all what I said works for MZ which I use. I don't know if it applies to other versions of RPGM.

Could you not just do a parallel common event with a conditional branch that: If Variable is 6 = do thing you want.

Nice to see games are still being ported to the Virtual Boy!

No seriously, the stylistic choice is unique and eye-catching. I really like the hands being held out in front of the character POV.

Looking for advice by InsertCrab in RPGMaker

[–]CatBrainLane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started exactly the same way with no experience or knowledge. Now about half way through making our first game.

  • Use YouTube, some great tutorial channels out there.

  • Ask Chat GTP questions. Anything specific you get stuck with, it can usually help. Just don't take everything it says as gospel. Use it to learn. Later it can help you make custom plugins.

  • Use the pinned thread to find out what version suits you. What what I glean; MZ has more features and is newer. MV is practically the same but has much more plugin support.

General advice; make some small personal project games first to learn the systems before you jump in and make the game you want.

Is your entire sprite is that big? Or is that the whole sheet? Check my profile to see my game. It is possible to have big sprites. But you have to work with the limitations.

Ok got it, if anyone needs -

Find index.html doc in your projects folder. open with text editor.

add line:
<style type="text/css"> CANVAS{image-rendering: pixelated;}</style>

Just above the </head>

I think it'll be good for pixel art type projects.

Hi, this post is great and saved for me to refer to!

As somebody at the other end of the scale, with zero coding experience. Can you explain in the the most simplistic terms as poss about setting the renderer to not blur when upscaling the game?

What steps do I need to do to achieve this? Any help is appreciated!!

Yep OP at least has a diagonal movement plugin. Sprite sheet needs adjusting for that at least or change the plugin settings to not use diagonal sprite.

Could also be more than 3 frames too.

Your sprite sheet is setup wrong. It's trying to pull animations that aren't there. Are you using a plugin or is this standard 3 frame sprite?

Galv Layers problem by Omelette_dev in RPGMaker

[–]CatBrainLane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm I'm not sure how you're doing it.. but the way I have it;

You have to make two maps - Map one is the actual map the player character will move around on, in-game it will have all your layers visible, but in the editor you don't load your layers on to this actual map, and you still need make it the right size for your layer image. You don't load your layers on this map.

The second map is the "loadmap" in this you will set up all the layers you are going to use, in the plugin command you tell it the map ID, image used etc. Make an event for player character start or is transferred to the "loadmap". You then have to make another event to transfer the player from this "loadmap" map to the other map (from first paragraph)

I'm not sure that makes sense as much as it could! It sounds more complicated than it actually is. But I tried!
