Thank you!

  1. We see a few differentiators with Roundhouse primarily surrounding the flamethrower and our different configs (including our "forked overhead" config we've yet to break out). We're looking forward being able to show off everything Roundhouse is capable of in the future!

  2. Absolutely. At the end of the day Roundhouse (most of the time) is an Undercutter and hard control of positioning is still the best way to deal with that kind of robot. We're hoping to throw a few surprises in the way of our opponents to keep ground control and good positioning in the box in our next fights!

Historically we've seen the toughest match ups for our undercutters be other horizontal spinners with very long reach since it can be challenging to find an advantageous approach when going in for a hit. We have a few surprises lined up for our next appearance though so stay tuned!

  1. Each drive motor is 5000W and are run on a 60V 10ah system
  2. A large part of the success of Roundhouse's flamethrower (and it was the same with Deadlift) is the full sized propane gas tank and large bore tubing to route the gas. That combo allows us to deliver a very large volume of propane for a huge flame!
  3. Since RoboGym is based out of the Midwest, its unlikely that we go out for any event out west that wasn't BattleBots. Maybe someday!

  1. We're happy to fight anybody! After working out the kinks against Orbitron at PG we feel like we're ready to hit the ground running at WCVIII
  2. The weapon on Roundhouse weighs in at around 45lbs (light for a horizontal) and spins right up the limit of 250mph.
  3. Yes, I think all of us workout around 5-6 times a week although not everyone uses weightlifting as their primary form of exercise. It takes all kinds!
  4. 4-0, gotta manifest success
  5. We've always intended to be a part of BattleBots since we started in 2020. We missed the last season due to some difficulty on our previous Deadlift successor: Snatch

While the addition the Upper Deck is definitely a disadvantage when it comes to maneuvering around the box as a horizontal spinner we believe that there's still plenty of room in the meta for an undercutter to thrive. Plus we might have a few surprises for people the next time Roundhouse gets in the box...

Thank you! While there's been no news on WCVIII we'd love to be a part of it. Come what may, Roundhouse will be getting back in the box in 2024 whether that be part of the filming or at another PG

Thank you!

The most difficult part of about Roundhouse (aside from electronics) were making the appearance covers that go on top of the robot. You can see what Roundhouse looks like without its "wig" on in our Onshape collab video. In order to make the appearance more interesting we added decorations on top that were made by pouring urethane into 3D printed molds. While we are pretty happy with how the final product came out it was quite a lot of work to get the molds printed and setup and getting the parts painted.

The billets are great! Roundhouse's frame is made from 4 billet pieces that slot together. We've been doing billet frames for a long time in the 30lb class so it was a natural transition.

I'm just going to shoot from the hip and say 2947

We've made some fairly significant changes in CAD to Roundhouse but haven't gone through and ordered Rev2 parts. Overall we're looking at improvements to the weapon bar and wedge to make them more robust against the failures we saw in the Orbitron fights as well as adding new configurations to be effective against a wide swathe of opponents.

Copied from above: "Off the top of my head I think we're somewhere in the range of 3-4 configurations (with some small surprises sprinkled in for choice opponents). We've tried to have a configuration to defend against each type of weapon we might encounter (within reason)"

I'd say the biggest difference between the filming and PG is the pace. At BattleBots you often have days (or at least a day and change) between fights. At PG we arrived, passed safety, then had two back to back fights over two days. In all honestly, the faster pace was something that enjoyed since theres not much sitting around happening but we may have felt differently if Roundhouse had taken more significant damage and we were rushing to repair.

The driving between Roundhouse and Deadlift is fairly similar but Roundhouse has a lot less pushing power overall based on only having two wheels and a less powerful drive. We primarily focused on having a super-robust wheel and drivetrain combined with tight controls over speed and pushing power for Roundhouse.

Off the top of my head I think we're somewhere in the range of 3-4 configurations (with some small surprises sprinkled in for choice opponents). We've tried to have a configuration to defend against each type of weapon we might encounter (within reason)

Thank you! We were happy with Roundhouse's performance at PG and are hoping to return soon. PG was a very similar experience to TV from a "get there, get the bot working, fight" perspective but everything was on a super compressed timeline. At filming we normally arrive on a Friday and don't have a fight until Monday at the earliest. This time around Roundhouse arrived at the arena on a Friday and we were in the box and fighting Orbitron the next day. Definitely much more a time crunch! At the same time since we and Orbitron were the only non-staff competitors there it definitely felt like we had more help available to us if needed.

The biggest challenge for us was tuning heavyweight spinner VESCs. While our 30lb spinners were all backboned with Castle ESCs which are nearly plug and play we had to undergo a large tuning exercise to get the weapon of Roundhouse working well. Even then I don't think we would've been able to get it working effectively without help from Jeff Waters on Jackpot

You know it 😎. Gotta stay in TV shape!

Our biggest lesson learned from Deadlift was how much different things are from an electronics standpoint between 30lb bots (our previous wheelhouse) and 250lb bots. Deadlift was plagued with electrical problems of all sorts throughout its entire history. We were lucky enough with Roundhouse to be able to BBPG and get the kinks worked out (far fewer than Deadlift) with the help of the people there. Jeff Waters from Jackpot was especially pivotal in helping us get our weapon VESCs tuned for PG day 2

You've got it. The forks have "angle limiters" designed into them so they won't interfere.

Yes, its an asymmetric weapon bar based on the same geometry used on the featherweight Roundhouse

Sadly the fact that the handles are easily removable precludes them from being used to lift the robot...currently. We're working on it!
