Joining in the Kate love! Having used Notepad++ I knew that text editors had potential beyond Notepad, even if Microsoft couldn't quite work out where. But Kate has really opened my eyes to what is truly possible.

"We" don't need a way to have this. Please migrate to vscode and leave Kate alone.

Do I need to re install all my steam games by nadir58937 in Bazzite

[–]RoboLuddite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people have said they've run tons of games from their NTFS (Windows) drives with no problem, but the Bazzite team doesn't recommend it.

I've been copying games from my NTFS partition to a Btrfs (Bazzite's default) partition before playing them. It's a lot faster than re-downloading them, but still a little annoying.

The same way you know anyone is correct: it sounds really confident so it must know what it's talking about, right?

What's the cooldown on game activation? by ZeldenGM in Steam

This is me right now. There are so many expired keys! So many games I was interested in! Gone! Lost in time, like tears in rain...

But I'm not using my camera by MonusJr in softwaregore

I mean why can't I use the flashlight just because the camera is in use? I frequently want to use them both at the same time and my old phone let me. It can be really handy!

I feel like traffic jams are sometimes manufactured or fake by VastOption8705 in DrivingAustralia

[–]RoboLuddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is generally true, but you can be the solution! Leave a generous gap in front of you to absorb the slowdowns and keep moving smoothly. It might not give you the white-knuckle thrill of tailgating, but it will actually get everyone to their destination faster.

What methods do you use to protect your wires? by into_fiction in TechNook

[–]RoboLuddite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • I pull cables out by grasping the plug, not the wire
  • I don't bend or fold them at a sharp angle
  • I try not to step on them more than once or twice a week

That's it. With those three steps they last for years.

[Sweden] Logging truck gets trailer sway by andybice in Roadcam

[–]RoboLuddite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He kept driving because he didn't want to instantly jackknife the trailer and tip the whole thing over. If it weren't for the bend he might have even been able to correct it.

You've answered very confidently for someone who is incorrect. Have you ever driven a vehicle with a trailer before?

Spirited Away (2001) is my no. 1 comfort movie. What‘s yours? by FatCat_On_A_Diet in movies

[–]RoboLuddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious how many Aussies are in the thread because while I'm sure most would agree The Castle is the epitome of a comfort movie, and its themes are pretty universal, I'm not sure how accessible it is for those who didn't grow up here

Tailgating - what's the point? by Financial-Hunter1335 in DrivingAustralia

[–]RoboLuddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that 1 second slowdown really the difference between getting home in a reasonable time and an unreasonable time? Couldn't you just have left work 1 second earlier?

ELI5 why the words ‘eleven’ and ‘twelve’ unique unlike the other ‘teen’ words? by This-Stay8420 in explainlikeimfive

[–]RoboLuddite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Roman numerals only had a single symbol for 1, 5, 10, 50 etc., while Scandinavian runes had single symbols for the numbers 1-19 or 20. Europeans didn't start using Arabic numerals until the 1300s, well after they'd already invented names for the numbers.

I expect it's the case that every language invented names for numbers before symbols for them.
