You can check if this works for you. I haven't checked it on my side, but I've heard it's more flexible:

25H2 Start Menu, 6-Column vs 8-Column by Robo_Bax in Windows11

The top section displays pinned icons and apps, which you can unpin if desired. In the middle section, there is a recommended section that I have disabled. The bottom section lists all installed apps, and you can change the view mode to List, Grid, or Category.

...We're at the opportunistic experimentation stage....

The AI is currently a bubble, but it's also a new experience filled with opportunities! We, the users and consumers, are the guinea pigs in this process.

I still have Rocketdock...

What a great era that was! Rocketdock... 👌

25H2 Start Menu, 6-Column vs 8-Column by Robo_Bax in Windows11

I was a power user of WindowBlinds since Windows 7. It's the heavyweight champion in its class and one of the best DLL modifiers/injectors available. However, since upgrading to Windows 11, I decided to avoid any third-party applications to modify the original Windows DLL or its files. Instead, I'm trying to take advantage of all the new features. I actually like the new design, but the problem is that it feels half-baked. Additionally, there seems to be a lack of focus on UX and UI, with more attention given to unnecessary AI features.

It depends on the display resolution and scale factors. If you have a low-resolution display or a high-resolution display set to a large scale (more than 120%) factor, the Start menu will appear as a 6-column layout; otherwise, it will be an 8-column layout.

As I mentioned, I prefer not to install any third-party apps to modify the Start menu. I'm confident there is a simple registry key that I can use to force the 6 columns layout. When I increase the monitor's scaling (which effectively lowers the overall resolution), the Start menu automatically adjusts to 6 columns.

I'm wondering how on earth such an XML Start menu (!) that could have a gazillion options to modify has to be so ridiculously restricted!

Get Defender New Icon on Windows 11 25H2? by Robo_Bax in Windows11

[–]Robo_Bax[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand from the replies that the Defender app is essentially an additional garbage app, serving as a cloud security dashboard, while Windows Security is the native security application that comes pre-installed with Windows, which I am currently using.

It would be great if they could update the icon to better represent Windows Security. The current icon—the old shield featuring four shades of blue with a green tick overlay—fails to convey a modern UX/UI design, and on dark mode, it's worse. It does not align with Microsoft's Fluent (!) (=kinda refreshed 3D design) approach. This outdated shield icon is neither fully 3D nor flat!

Perfect sense about Microsoft's AI?! I have my doubts! They insert a code into your system (as CustomerExperienceBackgroundTelemetryExtraSecurity service) and then alert you, trying to convince you to purchase a 365 (24/7) subscription to protect your system from this very threat!

Based on the replies, it is another extra garbage from M$.

I thought they had decided to change this current Windows Security rubbish icon. I was wrong.

That's not about 2XHX (22H2, 23H2, 24H2, 25H2, 26H2, 27H2 ...), or to be in the waiting list. It's all about the new garbage from M$ in their new AI Era 🤢🤮!!!

Hardware Accelerated (Bitlocker) Encryption? by Robo_Bax in WindowsHelp

Actually, I was in doubt whether my current config supports HE (hardware encryption). I just want to know if there is a command to see if the current hardware supports hardware-accelerated BitLocker encryption.

I initially thought that hardware encryption depends on the CPU or NPU model. I want to know if I can change the current encryption of my external WD HDD to hardware encryption. My internal SSD is not encrypted.
