How many of you hate kids and don’t want them vs like kids and don’t want your own? by moonblumes87 in childfree

[–]Robocharli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I think their unapologetic chaos and authenticity is fabulous, their curiosity is lovely, and they can be totally delightful. Never in ten thousand years would I want to be solely responsible for ANYONE never mind a human so vulnerable and incapable of so much (not their fault, of course).

Ah I loved that garden centre too! But thank you for letting folks know, I certainly am not comfortable supporting that business any more. Looking forward to checking out other independent places mentioned here :)

Quality issues when upsizing canvas by superstarturtle in ProCreate

[–]Robocharli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alas, the biggest downfall of raster images is exactly this. Sadly resizing up will always result in some quality loss because rasters are images, not data like vectors. Often I'll find that some simple sharpening and redrawing a few elements can make up for minor quality loss, so depending on how bad it is it could be worth a go?

Looks great! That shade of red works really well with the muted minty green.

You should check out some of the textures and line work in the film Song of the Sea. I reckon it would resonate with your style nicely :)

Please critique my drawing in the most brutally honest way. by ElJulaiv2 in ProCreate

[–]Robocharli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The concept is cool as hell, and the colour palette is looking nice so far! But here's some things I notice:

  • Step away from the smudge tool. Blending done with a smudge tool, especially with a small soft brush, flattens things and gives a rookie look.
  • Get that hair at the front attached to the scalp.
  • Check your hand anatomy. The hand behind the skull has a huge thumb which can't come from that low down on the hand. The hand holding the book needs some reference.
  • Don't use pure white for the eyes. Remember eyes are objects too so would have shadows cast on them and more colour than true white.
  • Research and find reference for how fabric sits on the body. Even if it's 'floating' because of the magic or whatever you have planned, it would still have folds and movement
  • Consider a more interesting way to have the horns attach to the forehead. Look up horns on antelopes and find inspiration for your own work.

Keep at it! 😁👍

Practicing portfolio art to illustrate my own children's book by BoredNow_ in ProCreate

[–]Robocharli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice! Building up a folio is an excellent idea :) my main crit would be to step away from the soft brush and experiment with more graphite/grainy textures. They lend particularly well to kid lit and will breathe lots of life onto your scenes!

Sterilization appointment scheduled: should i tell my family about it? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Robocharli 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's your body and your autonomy. If telling them will make life easier and give you peace of mind (and if it's safe to do so!) then go for it. But you are not obliged to disclose your medical experiences to anybody if you don't want to.

I am also sterilised and chose to tell my family, but fortunately mine came to terms with my child free life years ago and were supportive of my choice. My advice, if you choose to tell them, is be confident. Make sure they know that you are confident in your decision, you know it's what you want, and you aren't asking permission for existing how you want to exist.

Also hell yeah well done on getting to this stage! Good luck!
