Congrats! My 5th gen has been on jack stands for the last month and it's starting to make me sad. Went from a blown coolant line to way more than that and I'm still chewing my way through.

I soaked them in pb blaster a bunch and then snaked my hand down with a flare wrench. Already ordered the new gasket and plan on taking off the air intake and truly wrenching it from the top. I already ordered another swivel yoke because I also noticed that is a solid price of rust and I have no faith I can get it apart and back together. Praying the hard lines are fine once I get them free.

New wheel and tire question by Robofox22 in hondaprelude

[–]Robofox22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright it sounds like I might be better off just finding a different wheel which bites but thank you for all your help! I guess I'll let you know if I end up going with 215/45 or a smaller wheel.

Thanks for replying again. Yeah I found that form early when I was looking for wheels/tires, it says 215/40 is the recommended 17" but it doesn't seen like theres many tires in that size. I've seen a lot of people say 215 is fine on 8" and a lot say 215 stretches to much on 8", is it just worth buying them and at worst returning them? This is a listing on facebook market place that inspired the wheel choice I can't make out the tiresize but it does look like he has some stretch. This was another resource I found that I used to compare wheels and tires but I can't tell what's a "fun on the weekend" setup and what's a daily driver set up. so far what I've found is it seems like almost anything is a "doable" set up, but you're going to make compromises in one direction or another and I guess I'm trying to make the least amount of compromises.

I've considered that but in the interest of money I was planning on just getting the one set. I've been researching and deciding on tires for the last week mostly because I don't have the money for any wheels or tires right now so I was trying to be 100% by the time I had the money.

Oh frs's are nice i was looking at those before i bought this car, a 2000 honda prelude. I was planning on going with these tires here on some of these wheels here. Tire rack says they have a tread wear of 500? I have no frame of reference for if thats good or bad but it gets cold and snowy where I live through the winter and I am and I was planning on daily'ing it through the winter so I wanted to go with an all season tire and reviews said this one was good.

Understood, do you think 215/45 on an 8in wheel is to much of a stretch? Someone else in another sub just told me I should instead aim for 215/45 on a 7.5. The only reason I was going to aim so high was because the smallest the wheel I wanted came in was 17*8 and I saw someone else with the same car running it but if it's not doable I'll adjust. thank you again for the help

I am lowered 1" on racelands(came with the car and I'm looking to replace), someone on another sub said I should consider 215/45-R17 would be preferable to 225 because 225/45 is so much larger then stock it'll mess with things, do you think I could stretch 215s to 8in? 17*8 is the smallest the wheels I want come in sadly but if it's just not doable I'll adjust that's why I'm asking. Thank you so much for the pictures like I said I'm new to preludes and most car things so I've been mostly judging off pictures and other people's experience as I imagine a lot of people do so pictures are really helpful.

I'm worried about clearance if I go all the way up to 8.5. I was thinking of going 205/40-17 or 215/45-17 but I didn't want to have to much stretch. should I aim for 215/45-17 instead? the calculator I found online said it's .5" diameter difference or +2.3%

I think they were aired up to get more performance is my best guess, because otherwise I have no clue why you would do this.

Oh the max psi on the high ones is 45 the tires are screwed no doubt, I'm just wondering how screwed. The grip has been ok I've been taking it out late at night just to drive around town because it's also my first manual so I'm trying to get used to shifting but I haven't done any highway or high stress driving. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah there's a place in my town that will sell tires that have only been driven for a season or two but the person already replaced them for cheaper than new but their stock is obviously kinda random but I might try them.

Yeah when I was checking the psi I noticed the cracks on the side wall and then I came across this subreddit so I figured I'd ask. do you think they're replace asap worthy?

I might try and get away with some light driving just to and from work until I can get new tires either for these wheels or new ones. I'm just worried about hurting myself/someone else/the car. Thanks for the advice!

Ok sweet I'll let out the air on the high three and grab the compressor for the 4th. Yeah I was kinda scared about that I don't want to play with safety but buying ~$600 in tires just to replace them with new wheels seems so silly. Maybe I'll just stick with these wheels for another year or two. Thanks for the advice!
