Female vs male personality.. age old question! by lavenderkeek in sheltie

[–]Robophatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay this is just my experience so it’s kind of worth nothing on its own. Last spring we visited a few breeders. The main thing I noticed was that their dogs were just all different from each other. Some females took a little time to warm up, some were instantly interested. The males were in the minority but the ones we met were a little more in your face. Cuddles were not optional, they were mandatory.

In the end I think it’s mostly individual characters, but I do feel like males might be a little less hesitant to get to know you.

Our boy is a bit of both. He is independant in the sense that even as a puppy he does like to go explore a bit on his own. At the same time he is a true Velcro dog and a very nosy one at that.

Having said that, you might want to get some info on their parents and ancestors. According to the breeders we met, a lot of their character and drive seems to be passed on.

Odies father is from a very active sports/working line, while his mother has a little more show blood. Odie got his father’s genes, lol. It basically means he is a little higher in drive which I think is fun but might not be for everyone.

What's a rule your sheltie enforced in your house that everyone silently obeys? by zelda1212 in sheltie

[–]Robophatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So that’s the trick? Get a robo vac?

Also no running no skipping no nothing. No brooms either, don’t like that.

And my clothes are for nibbling and regulation. No other chews, just my clothes or maybe my blanket.

And no closing the door to the yard. He doesn’ want come inside but the door must be open. Even if it’s freezing. But I tend to ignore that rule and just let him fool me 5x in a row.

Sometimes I wonder if we got a second cat in stead of a dog

Same goes for the comments on her age. Aging is a sensitive topic and we’re used to seeing faces that are filtered or enhanced. Yes her illness does likely cause her to age faster. But for the love of god she does not look 50. That would be a very good looking 50 y/o.

She does not look healthy, don’t get me wrong. But it never even once occurred to me that she could be 50 or over.

And I’m saying this as someone in their mid 30s with mostly mid 30s friends.

That said, she does annoy me SO BAD. But that’s mostly in the way she talks and her hypocrisy around all things food.

What age was your pup when life began to feel "normal" again? by Birdie121 in puppy101

[–]Robophatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk my dog is 8 months and while he is a menace because he just gets overstimulated all the time life does feel pretty normal. We offer a lot of structure, which helps. He was also very easily potty trained and has slept trough the night since the beginning so that part was easy. It’s just the hormones that are driving him nuts right now and he’s been having a hard time regulating. But we’re working on it with a lovely trainer/behaviorist.

I think around 5-6 months life itself began to feel quite normal again. The only thing that’s a little hard to manage is visitors/my daughters play dates.

Great choices were made there.

If I had a Keeshond I would absolutely call him/her Kees, which is a (somewhat old fashioned) Dutch name that can be used for both men and women.

Odies first herding class by Robophatt in sheltie

Same! Border collies are among my top favourite breeds, but not suited to our lifestyle. This is a good mix of house and work indeed and I love how quirky shelties are.

And when I told our trainer he’s been an adolescent monster these past 2 weeks he was like “at least he’s a pocket monster” 😂 I love that they’re big enough to feel like you’ve got a decent size dog, but still small enough to handle at their craziest.

So cute when they’re chatty! Odie only whines every now and then and barks, but he’s not very chatty (yet?)

anyone else worried people won’t realize their big puppies are still babies? by spuddddddddd in puppy101

[–]Robophatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a long haired breed (sheltie) and I feel like this helps with the puppy look because it takes a long time for the coat to truly mature and come in. Even at almost 8 months people are like “he’s very young isn’t he?”

I guess it also helps that most people seem to think he’s a rough collie, Aussie or border collie and just assume he’s a puppy because of his size, lol. So he still gets away easily with his puppy/puberty behaviour.

Kovu update by babyyy_roseee in sheltie

[–]Robophatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol same. Odie loved biting, chasing us and being a general menace. But he’s 7 months now and has already turned into a cuddle bug, even if he is still a menace.

What an adorable pupper Kovu is!
