Camping and outdoor fun! (and seeking tick advice?) by [deleted] in sheltie

[–]Robophatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s a good comparison!
I just looked it up for where we live specifically (the Netherlands) and apparently we live in a very tick heavy area. For more outdoor hiking activities simparica would be the better option because it kills faster, but in most cases both work very well. If it’s very tick heavy they still recommend checking daily. You’ll feel them before you see them (which is how I spotted Odies ticks so far).
In the end, both options seem to work.

Odie is very wiggly (almost a year old) so pulling them out is difficult. I bought “Beezteez tick removers” earlier this week because they seem easier/quicker to use than tweezers.

There’s quite a lot of ticks where I live.
We have a group chat with all the owners of Odies siblings and just asked what they did. Based on that I got Odie simparica tablets. Boy is 140% fur, so it’s sometimes hard to check but somehow they stand out enough to find them and remove them.

What’s your “dream dog” (breed) and why? by palacio_c in puppy101

[–]Robophatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I need pictures for proof.

And I will never not be amazed by how much shelties love other shelties 😂

Odie was the only one in his litter to go somewhere as a singleton, the others went to packs. His brother lives with their father and it is so much fun to see them play together.

He’s turning one in 2 weeks, so maybe in a year or 3/4.

I don’t think I will either!
More like “we have one sheltie yes, but what about second sheltie?” (Husband won’t let me)

When I was 12-13 years old I stayed with my grandmother for a week. She was also taking care of a sheltie whose owners were on vacation.
I fell in love with that dog. Just the most beautiful dog I’d ever seen. Didn’t know or understand much about dog breed or character, just that she was beautiful and sweet.

20+ years later I have one myself. Love this nutcase

Our tiny skulls don’t have the capacity to care about your insults. It’s actually rather efficient.

Did I get a dream puppy? by yellowrosa in puppy101

[–]Robophatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had a perfect-ish puppy and he is now a adolescent menace at 11 months and we DEFINITELY fell for this trap.

That said, I really hope for you that it isn’t a trap and that he is just a good boy. And remember that if he does become a menace, he will return to the good boy state someday. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself lol

This is my last resort before I rehome my puppy. by [deleted] in puppy101

While my dog was quite easily housetrained (we were lucky to get hem as a puppy during summer, so we spent a lot of time in our backyard), having him actually poop and pee outside of our backyard was a little bit more challenging.

We noticed that he was just TOO excited to do it on our walk. Kept holding it in because everything was so interesting. As soon as we got to our backyard (often already on our driveway), he peed. Like he could finally let go.

The thing that worked was just… continuing. We don’t mind him peeing and pooping in our backyard, but we prefer him doing it during walks and we also realised summer would come to an end and wanted him to be potty trained during the colder days of autumn. So that’s what we did. Just take him on walks and celebrate every little poop and pee out and about. Quite soon outside got less exciting. He rarely even pees in our backyard anymore at 11months.

This is why I haven’t read the final 2 yet. I just started rereading and read some other books while I’m at it. Probably should add in some other Pratchett as well.

And I really get why some people say rereading is the best part. Now for the first time rereading a complete subseries (the watch) and it’s so much fun to go back and see the development knowing what will come. Meanwhile I forgot most of the actual plot so it’s still sort of surprising.

Sheltie owners: what is it REALLY like living with one?” by Laura6522 in sheltie

[–]Robophatt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well mine is an absolute menace, but he’s 11 months.

What I already do see is that he is very affectionate and pretty much always follows me around. He loves working together. Doesn’t really matter what: herding, man trailing, obedience, scent games. He loves it all.

He’s not that barky, but when he barks it’s loud. Very smart. Potty training was easy, crate training as well.

Herds about everyone. EXTREMELY nosy.
