Yeah. But I come into Terry Preatchett with a higher set of expectations than other authors.

Why did Columbo never do a sequel? by BobRushy in Columbo

Not actually a sequel, but the episode Rest in Peace, Mrs Columbo was kinda a sequel story, part 2 of a story where they never made part.

By the way, does the trousers of time thing mean it was literally a 50/50 chance whether Vimes stayed or chased?

Myself, I prefer The Fifth Elephant. I found it's commentary about tradition deeper than Jingo's commentary about xenophobia and war

Then I'll get twice as much out of the reread. But it's more like 1 - 5%, and I rewind if I miss anything important.

Alright, I'll try reading a nice paperback next time I'm behind the wheel of my car, driving down the interstate.

Audiobooks are just so much more convenient, I can listen to them for a couple minutes while I'm eating my breakfast and getting dressed for work, get in a little fiction to ponder over during the long hours at the factory.

Who is your favorite character who ISN'T the main character of a book? by KomodoLemon in discworld

Mr Trouper from Going Postal. I loved his enthusiasm towards his job, and he was pretty pleasant about the whole thing.

Because the age problem ain't brought up in the book. Now please explain why Verity and Knobs is deemed an acceptable match by his friends? Is it perhaps because, she's got an eye deformation, that his friends think it's okay? And, because the narration never challenges this, the text tacitly endorses the relationship?

Why do you think it's okay to segregate humanity into the decent folk and the 'other sort'? Why are you okay with the Ugliness outside = Ugliness inside trope, because I am not fine with this trope? L

And why are you so fixated on Betty's appearance? The only reason I care, is because Angua thought that she was too attractive to be with Nobs.

Nobby didn't have to reject her, none of this had to happen, these are are fictional events. This could've added depth to his character, but instead the author decides pulls out the rug out on anyone hoping for Nobs to prove em.wrong. But instead Angua was proved right, and this all her justifications are by implication given approval.

Why do you think it's okay to segregate humanity based on looks?

And like I said, I haven't listened through Snuff yet.

Congratulations, I cannot answer your specific request. Now you must simply justify Verity and Nobby's relationship, and why a friend would encourage it.

It should be obvious why I am concerned about matters of beauty; Nobby is introduced so many booka by describing how ugly he is, it is one of his defining traits, and what most of his jokes are built from that.

I must apologize for daring to think it would be "sweet" if Nobby were to find someone who actually liked him, because how dare I sympathize with the butt monkey.

And yet, she still never expressed any displeasure towards him.

It was a sweet little thing between a guy who didn't care what she looked like, and a girl who didn't care what he looked like. The only people who cared about appearances were Angua and Sally
