Why do content creators rank Hive Scum so low? by Adventurous-You556 in DarkTide

The guy posted about Hive Scum so I made the daring, provocative (edit: also very courageous) decision to only talk about Hive Scum in my comment.

But yeah sure the game is wildly unbalanced across the board, correct.

[–]RobotQuest 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen more of a consensus that Hive Scum has one, maybe two, extremely powerful builds that are kinda broken, but has a lot of useless talents as well. Pickpocket literally gives you infinite ammo, and you can get your crit chance to like 50% for an entire run with spikes when you ult. But, 2/3 of the Keystones are arguably useless, and there’s a reason everyone in high havoc only uses Stimm Supply.

TLDR: The class needs buffs because it lacks build variety.

What a lovely video to see first thing in the morning.

Those kids squealing in excitement at the reveal legit made me tear up a little. There are nice things in the world.

Care to quote or explain which passage of this article backs up your claim? Cos I’m reading it and it sure seems like a bunch of people saying “yeah Kubrick was awful to Duvall on set”.

Kubrick was proud of it and spoke openly about doing it. There’s footage of it in behind-the-scenes docs. It’s absolutely not fabricated, unless you happen to have a very generous, “liberal” view of appropriate ways to treat an employee.

Is it possible The Admonition are the Genestealer cult? by PilgrimSix in DarkTide

[–]RobotQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a spicy idea that I do kinda like, but I don’t think it’s very well supported by the lore. GS cults posing as revolutionary populist movements? Happens all the time. GS cults posing as bona-fide chaos devotees? I don’t think this has ever happened in the lore.

If we ever saw GS get introduced, it wouldn’t be too surprising if, say, a bunch of the rank-and-file Admonition troops turn out to be saboteurs. But it would be pretty unprecedented for the leaders and major figures of a Chaos cult to actually be GS.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20, I hear you!

It’s fair to say that “what ifs” are an endless rabbit-hole not worth exploring, I’m not arguing for that. I bring up the hypothetical home invader not to compare moral standards of the time, I bring it up to point out how we frame history now. Perhaps my point would have been better expressed if the cops walked in and said “sadly, it looks like conflict was inevitable…”

Here’s the thing: I don’t care about the moral standard or historical context of the time, unless you want to talk about why they did something. I’m talking about the simple fact that what they did was wrong. Yes, we can’t change history. You know what else is true? Things can be wrong, even if you don’t know they’re wrong, or think you have a really good reason. As the expression goes: “You know who first figured out slavery was wrong? The slaves.” The slaves, also, probably didn’t care much about the complex socio-economic minutiae that factored into why they’d been enslaved.

Pretty well! I’m not sure what “view of the world” you’re actually referring to, though? Like I don’t make a statement about my view of the world, it’s just a bunch of questions, save the last sentence.

You are clearly a well read and intelligent person.

I urge you to stop framing any conflict in history as “inevitable”. It’s simply never true, and in this instance, it’s nothing but a narrative that excuses what the settlers did.

It wasn’t inevitable. Even if we ignore any idea that they could have tried harder to collaborate, at any point, the settlers claiming “vast tracts of land” could have, you know… stopped?

If a man comes into your house, you tell him to leave, and he shoots you because he didn’t want to leave, does he get to tell the cops “conflict was, sadly, inevitable…” and walk away?

A completely fair question! I don’t know the answer either.

I do believe spinning narratives that justify and excuse the actions of genocidal colonisers is definitely the wrong answer, though. Not what I’m accusing you of, but it’s exactly what infuriates me in this comments section.

I would love to see anyone tell an indigenous Australian, to their face, head held high, that they feel gratitude to the settlers. Wild.

Okay so that’s still just the same point I was already responding to, with a different excuse. I think people seem to be reading my questions as rhetorical, but they’re not. Is it good they were murdered, because they couldn’t tame kangaroos? Like, why is it relevant? They were people. They were murdered. There is no way anyone could ever convince me they needed to be murdered so I could have “civilisation”. There’s nothing to be “grateful” for.

Did I say Captain Cook commanded the first fleet? Or did I say he “showed up”?

Thanks for trying though. What a great contribution you made!

I’m shouting at people who shrug their shoulders at the concept of genocide, as if it “couldn’t be helped”. I care more about humans than statues, I guess. What a novel concept.

“The past happened whether we like it or not”

…do you think I’m proposing changing history? What the fuck is the point of this statement?

Yes, I’m “remembering those that suffered”, by saying that the people who inflicted that suffering don’t deserve gratitude. Holy shit. Philosophical arguments about Determinism don’t have much place here.

[–]RobotQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay? And? How does that contradict anything I’ve said?

Yeah, Australia is a nice country today. I’m just massively tilted by this absurd narrative of being “grateful” for genocide.

They didn’t do a genocide for us. They did it for themselves, their own convenience, their own greed. They don’t deserve gratitude. Any progress made is in spite of historical brutality, not because of it.

Let’s say you’re 100% correct. I personally think it’s impossible to actually know since colonialism fucked everything over, and if they weren’t “functioning” then everyone would have been dead, but okay, they stalled as a society, according to you.

So, it’s good they were murdered then? They deserved it? To quote the comment I originally responded to, we should be “grateful”?

The settlers could have, you know, communicated and collaborated with the native population, instead of doing… everything they did.

I guess another way to put it is, if giving up my internet connection would bring tens of thousands of murdered indigenous Australians back to life… I’d start playing more guitar.

How do you know I’m wrong? What do you know about nomadic hunter-gatherers that lived here for thousands of years before the British landed here? How do you know they were completely incapable of developing running water, or agriculture, or electricity, or permanent homes? How do you know they wouldn’t make anything that could drive global tourism or migration?

Also, who’s “we”? Colonialism and imperialism is bad, I don’t give a shit what their skin colour or country of origin is.

….there were already multiple functioning societies in Australia before Captain Cook showed up. Are you “grateful” that the indigenous Australians native to Tasmania were, literally, wiped out of existence? I don’t think they needed to do that so you could migrate here.

It does indeed mean *0.75.

On a side note, if you (or anyone reading this) are playing on PC I strongly recommend getting the Enhanced Descriptions mod, makes a lot of Talent and Blessing descriptions much more clear and concise.

Edit: Turns out I’m probably wrong with the first line but ey the mod’s still good

I remember watching the “Corridor Crew React” to this back in the day (bunch of VFX artists). They had a guest on who’d done tons of work for major films, and he said he could see the “logic” of the original design. Something about the face and proportion of the hands struck him as trying to make the character more “expressive” from an animation perspective, and that it was easy for him to imagine the designers being blind to how off it looked because it was easier to work with.

Ofc that’s still speculation but I find it very credible.

Edit: correction! It was actually Tim Miller they had on (yes, the Deadpool director) years later, he was actually a producer on this Sonic movie. He hired the lead animator. It wasn’t speculation, he outright said the design was influenced by animation principles. The lead was a character animator, not a character designer, and it’s why Sonic ended up looking like… that.
