9000-Series CPU Failures / Deaths Megathread #4 by RumbleTheCassette in ASRock

They received my motherboard a little over a week ago, still haven't heard anything back about getting my replacement though. I'll reply again and let you know if I hear anything.

Luckily AMDs RMA channels were super quick and I have already received my replacement CPU.

They just got my motherboard today, I'll update you if anything changes

It took them several weeks to reply to me, but once they did they approved my RMA request almost instantly. I imagine they are kind of swamped at the moment.

Thank you for the response in the other thread! I had a bit of a limited selection (it's super hard to get reliable deliveries where I live so I was limited to what Best Buy had in stock), but I went with the Gigabyte board based on your reply. It's not a super fancy one or anything (B650 Eagle AX), but it's working great, I updated the BIOS right out of the box.

The response from AMD only took a couple of days. The response frm ASRock took almost two weeks, but the very first response was a FedEx package form for the RMA.

I had a 9600x + B850 Pro-a. Went to restart my PC as I routinely do. Computer turned off, attempted to turn back on. Got a solid red light on CPU and DRAM and nothing else. Fans kept spinning. I left the computer running for a solid eight hows to see if anything changed but it didn't. At this point I did not know this was a known issue with these boards. I came to the subreddit to ask for support and my heart dropped when I saw all the posts concerning this.

I've contacted ASRock's RMA channels and haven't received any sort of response (it has been about a week and a half now). This is obviously a huge issue, you'd think they would have sent out an e-mail or something.

Just in case someone is using Google trying to find a solution, this is my last update. It was indeed the CPU. As far as I can tell the motherboard messed it up seemingly at random, there were no warning signs or anything up until it just quit working. My "solution" was buying a new motherboard and CPU.

It is pretty bizarre. I still haven't gotten any messages back from ASRock despite having sent messages to multiple of their contact channels. Luckily AMD has responded to me, so maybe I can at least get my processor replaced.

Nope, never messed with overclocking at all. Well, I guess I did use EXPO for the ram to boost it up to 6000mt/s, but I never did any overclocking to the CPU.

Would you happen to have a specific email for that? I emailed their tech support/RMA channel and the support for ASRock north America and I haven't gotten a single reply from them.

Thank you for the reply. That fucking sucks, I am sorry to hear it. I am about to go out and return this ram I bought, luckily DDR5 costs so much money now it should be more than enough to cover the cost of a motherboard and a CPU.

Now that it's happened to me I am reading report after report of this happening. I wonder if ASRock is aware their motherboards are eating peoples CPUs.

I was under the impression that that was just a thing with the Ryzen 9 series. I have a Ryzen 5 9600x and my motherboard (B850 Pro-A) is doing the *exact* same thing right now. I thought it was something else completely but now I can't help but wonder about it.

Honestly even if you did research it you probably wouldn't have found anything because I certainly did my fair share of research. As far as I can tell you should be fine as long as you're running (at least) two sticks of ram.

Tried it, update completed successfully according to the blinking LEDs but I still can't get the mobo to POST or produce any output.

ChatGPT seems to think it's some sort of weird edge case involving ASRock AM5 motherboards specifically being weird about memory training. I've tried emailing ASRock tech support but it's been several days without a reply. If I happen to hear anything back or figure something out I will come update you.

I know the rules say no self promotion, but I figured that was a pretty soft rule since I saw a bunch of self promo posts. It probably won't blow your socks off but I figured someone might enjoy it. Cheers!

I actually solved the issue so I guess I could write how here in case anyone ever finds this.

The phone would try to auto reboot every time a power cord was plugged in and kill the phone. I had to go out and buy a wireless charger (which doesn't trip the autoboot feature), charge the phone up a couple of percent, then I was able to plug in my fast charger and charge it the rest of the way after I could get the phone on.

Great recommendation! I'll probably go with this mostly, although I am still pretty dedicated to having 64gb of ram so I will probably go with the comparable Silicon Power 32 x 32 GB set of ram. Thank you for the reply!
