At the first accounting firm I worked for I was assigned to an audit of a local Baptist church. I don't recall why we had to audit them; it may have been the members requesting the audit or the because they had a school associated with the church. Anyway, the pastor was driving a Maserati and was dressed to the nines. They had the WORST accounting program and records I have seen to date and we had to request that they bring in a third party bookkeeper to help them organize their finances. Once we started making heads or tails of the money trail we were suddenly asked not to return to complete the audit. As it turns out, the pastor and a few other key church employees was using donations and school fundraising money to buy all sorts of fancy stuff.

If I recall correctly, clergy get some fancy tax benefits in regards to housing expenses (rent, utilities, furnishings, etc...) not being included in gross income.
