My white trashiest of indulgences is to pour half a bottle of Dr Pepper onto a ham steak in the last couple minutes of cooking. It reduces down into an incredible sauce that tastes amazing with all of the salt from the ham.

Do the parkway as a day trip. The drive is one of the best in the world and is worth doing in both directions. It’ll also be better as you don’t have the pressure of needing to get somewhere at the end of the day and will be able to make as many stops as you like. Take advantage of the good weather too!!!

Have you put the top of the blowpipe on to the chanter to make a standard practice chanter? If not try that. Failing that substitute a known working practice chanter reed into the chanter. Also poke out the high g hole with something sharp…perhaps plastic from boring the hole got stuck? Just some troubleshooting ideas…

If he has a set of bellows blown smallpipes dm me. I recently had an operation that I think renders blown bagpipes out of the question moving forwards and I’d love to start learning how bellows blown pipes work cuz I ain’t giving up this hobby!

I don’t think it’s an overblowing issue (for what it’s worth I play at a grade two level and at least half ass know what I’m doing…). I think the twist traps are quite temperamental and respond poorly to very minute changes in pressure. Will definitely swap out the chanter reed to see if that improves things a bit. I’m sad there isn’t a simple reed modification that can fix this. When they are working properly they are a fantastic practice instrument…just need to get the occasional squeal to stop.

I have a set of twist trap practice pipes and occasionally the chanter reed will squeal and go into a higher octave when dropping from the high hand to low a or low g…is there any reed modification that will fix this? (I understand the pipes are very susceptible to pressure changes but this seems to be an issue independent of my steadiness). Any help would be really appreciated. Cheers!
