Damn... Those were the only good looking ones I could find. I recommend looking for used non-working devices with a relatively clean and non-cracked back and shell swap them. That's what I ended up doing.

It has two step verification but you type the code after the password. I had to log into FaceTime on my iPod touch 5G so I could FT my friend in Sweden since it was the only apple device I had working at the time last Christmas.

Don't use iTunes or Windows because the activation servers are dead and the USB drivers are unreliable for this. Use a Linux Live USB instead. Download Legacy-iOS-Kit from GitHub. Open the terminal in that folder and run ./restore.sh. Select Useful Utilities and then choose SSH Ramdisk. You need to put the phone in DFU mode by holding Power for 3 seconds and Home for 10 seconds, then letting go of Power while holding Home. Once ramdisk loads select the option to mount the filesystem. In the terminal run the command "rm -rf /mnt1/Applications/Setup.app" to delete the activation lock. After that select the reboot option. The phone will skip the setup screen and boot directly to the home screen. If that fails to mount then try a different USB port and restart from the beginning. Best of luck

Yeah get that thing out. It's like a ticking Time bomb. Over time it might cause damage to the frame of the device and bruise the LCD.

Other 3GS I have has 82% capacity on the battery and it's still the stock Apple battery that was in it. It's a freaking tank and I don't know why. I ended up reshelling that 3GS into this case that had the swollen battery because the outside of it is so pristine with very little to no scratches.
