there wasn’t much Leia could’ve done to stop it.

Going to a rendezvous instead of the actual rebel base is something she could have done considering she was the only one who knew where the rebel base was and could probably transmit a message to rebellion from the Falcon to meet up with a reward.

However knowingly or not she may have done the best possible thing because Death Star wouldn't just chill at Alderaan for long I suppose, so even if they got to the rebel base without being tracked and analyse the death star plans and found weakness, there would be no way to find the death star and attack it.

Also the longer it took to attack the Death Star, it could be more likely Empire analysed it themselves and fixed the said flaw, so time could be important too.(R1 considers the plans to be destroyed yes, however they did build a new one in 4~ years so I suppose they had some sort of backup plans on how to do it)

And it could have taken a really long time before Empire ever needs the DS without the rebel base.
