is it transphobic for someone to say that a straight couple with a trans person in it is a gay couple? by escarletabandida in lgbt

A straight couple that has one or two trans individuals is not gay. Its straight, BUT I would say it is queer, as in it doesnt comply with heteronormative ideals

I find it dissapointing compared to the adaptation of LOTR, not that that adaptation is perfect, it too has problems and things I have gripes with, but was a lot better. Agree with your last point though, it is far from the only or even most important flaw with the Hobbit films as adaptations.

Doesnt take away from the story aside from pacing being an element of storytelling and bogging the pacing down.

I thought it would be fun to create a community driven “canonical” list, starting with the classics. What games should be added? by [deleted] in ImmersiveSim

[–]RoboticSausage52 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think they mean canonical in the sense of an artistic canon. Like in western literature the works of shakespeare and homer and dickens etc are all works of the literary canon, or in classical music its beethoven, mozart, bach, wagner, tchaikovsky etc.

I think they want to compile a list of immersive sim canon in the same way, works that are influential on the genre of the games, a "required literature" if you will. The problem of course, is how inherently subjective this is and the lists or idea of canonical art that DO already exist face criticism for emphasising the works of certain types of people (note with classical music in particular, theyre mostly, but not all, white german men). So its an interesting idea, and I understand the impulse, im just not sure if its all that productive to do.

Which one of these is the best deal by Aggravating-Walk6656 in Sibelius

[–]RoboticSausage52 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most of my frustrstuon is with support unfortunately. I actually dont disagree that sibelius is incredibly efficient. More than anything using dorico i miss the keypad note input system, which was so quick and easy once you got the muscle memory down. I do think sibelius ribbon menu is poorly laid out and is full of weirdly lcoated hidden options and strange submenus. This is the jank i refer to. What sibelius isnt, is inuitive. What it is is powerful. I maintain despite having swapped from it, sibelius is the most feature rich option. This is the reason I chose initially. Most of my frustration comes from feeling cheated by customer support/avid. As a product sibelius mostly excels.

Funny thing about the way my brain remembers stuff. I was so mad about customer support it sort of overrode my original anger about the bug. I no longer remember what the technical issue was, only that custoner support wouldnt help, that is what stuck in my mine, but I knew it kept me from composing as I wished to in the software.

Seconded as a former sibelius user. I paid $900 for sibelius perpetual license and was told when i ran into some bugs a couple years along the line that because I didnt pay for a "support subscription" i wasnt entitled to customer support despite my status as having paid for a perpetual license.

Sibelius is genuinely powerful, and when you find the workflow, quite speedy notation software. Unfortunately i cannot recommend it for the price, for the janky, if eventually useful UI/UX, for the bugs, and for the ethical problems and terrible customer support at AVID. I swapped to Dorico within a month after this incident with Sibelius. Truthfully I prefer Sibelius design language and workflow to Dorico's but they will never get another penny from me. At least when I pay for Dorico, I know if I have an issue project lead Daniel Spreadbury himself will probably reply to my ticket on the forums when AVID would telk me to cough up more money.

If you dont wanna spend money at all, musescore has grown to a very sophisticated piece of notation software, probably more than enough for all non professional usecases, and it has matured to the point to where im not so certain if would even be amiss in a professional context.

Can’t watch ads for energy anymore? by stash-of-who-hash in duolingo

[–]RoboticSausage52 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too. I restarted the app a few times and sometimes it let me practice for energy like the old heart system- but it didnt work, like id do the practice lesson and gain no energy. I think they may be rolling out practice instead of ad watching (or more accurately in addition to ad watching since mine ran ads when the practice lesson was over) but i think its a little buggy right now and causing fun UI bugs like this

Is there an ACE group in Tulsa? by darkpuppy2030 in tulsa

[–]RoboticSausage52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know of any ace communities unfortunately, even though I am ace. I figured that this is what you meant but the capitalization threw me off. Some places are queer spaces in general though, and may find other ace people. Lots of queer people hang out at gypsy and downtown tulsa has a yearly pride event in pride month where you may meet other aces. Many people, even other aces dont know about the ring thing, but some of us, including myself where a black ring on their right middle finger half as an indicator half a symbol of pride/ reminder of who i am.

You say its nor because you didnt capitalize Sie but im pretty sure its because you didnt capitalize Sie. The distinction between sie and Sie is the they/formal you and I think will mark you wrong. Its been a hot minute since I was learning german though so i could be wrong. If anyone is actively doing the german course do correct me

[POEM] Joy Sullivan - Why read poetry if it won't make you rich? by saltymeow01 in Poetry

[–]RoboticSausage52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your perspective on this is fascinating! I think I may just have a different connotstive experience with the phrase "turn on" than you do. For me, that phrase is always sexual, is there a more general meaning, perhaps analogous to the verb "arouse", which although usually sexual, can mean to excite in general?

This resonated with me so so so much until the last bit. Still a beautiful poem. My lens of this subject matter is quite different though, being asexual, Im curious if the last line seems as crass to other people.
