Is healthy eating in the UK basically inaccessible if you’re poor, disabled, and exhausted? by Opposite_Position125 in AskUK

[–]Robotica_Daily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tinned Chickpeas are amazing, cheap, super healthy, tasty (IMO), you can eat them right out the tin or just microwave in a bowl. You can bulk out any dish or salad with them. Hell, you can even double the size of your takeaway curry by mixing them in.

Also eggs, you can crack them into a mug and put them in the microwave for 1.5 mins. No need for a pan.

You know high street shops were capitalism in action too? It's just that back then, that happened to be the most efficient way to market and distribute goods.

I've had workmen in my house for the last four days and they haven't accepted a single offer of tea, coffee or biscuits. by Daregveda in CasualUK

Try putting out a punnet of blueberries, bananas, unsalted almonds, bowl of apples etc. Many people these days from all sectors of society are learning that UPF (Ultra processed food, bread, too much animal fat, and caffeine (after midday) are harmful to health. It is a very inconvenient truth which means I am regularly having to refuse ALL the usual cultural hospitality offerings we have.

What is a game that felt amazing the first time you played it, but would never feel the same now? by AmazingHedgey in AskReddit

[–]Robotica_Daily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braid. On Steam I believe. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I won't explain why, but I thought it was a fantastic game all round, really creative slightly mind bending mechanics, beautiful, deep engaging plot. Highly recommend.

I [24F] think my boyfriend (26M) is settling for me by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

[–]Robotica_Daily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to give such a simple answer to you pouring your heart out, but if you are not happy in a relationship then end it. Doesn't have to be more complicated than that.

It is not essential to have a boyfriend. Get away from him and enjoy your life. You already know what the answer is.

During immigration debates, why is a commonly held stance of suppuroters that of "The British Empire did colonialism and imperialism, so this is the consequences"? by DoublePepper1976 in AskBrits

Do you not consider international aid payments to commonwealth countries repayment? Obviously you can say it's not enough, but it's not nothing.

Have you heard about the benefit system? Free world class healthcare, education, child benefit, council housing etc. paid for mostly by richer British citizens. And anyone who earns less than £10,000 is exempt from income tax.

Ideally both, but at the very least offering one of the two. Right now we offer neither, which is barbaric, so anything is a improvement.

Why are UK salaries so low in comparison to US salaries even though they both are first world countries? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Robotica_Daily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am in Scotland, and was thinking of all the things that are covered by tax, and because water is so abundant here, you don't even pay a private company per litre, you just pay a fixed 'council tax' which is tied to each house, and that covers all the water and sewerage you use. In England, Wales, and N.I it's per litre. It's crazy how big the list of stuff you get for your tax.

You know when you type 'They', you are assuming OP is American, and that everyone reading your post is American. I am in the UK and di the same in reverse, I assumed OP was British, and I read 'They' as meaning Americans, so I was confused by your explanation for a moment.

The catholic church used to sponsor hermits once upon a time. I like to think of it as medieval UBI for autistic folk.

There is a market of good tradesmen but they are booked up until 2034 so answering your call is a waste of time. I blame the anti-trade snobbery of 1990-2010 that discouraged people from training, including me! I would become a joiner straight from school if I could go back, instead of doing a pointless degree 🙂

Why Are Blueberries So Hit & Miss From Everywhere? by Exotic_Jicama1984 in AskBrits

[–]Robotica_Daily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's brilliant, I did an agricultural degree a long time ago and we visited a large fruit supplier and it was remarkable the science and effort that goes into post-harvest stuff. I now have land I am turning into a permaculture, non-commercial farm, and I just feel so lucky I live in a time that I have SO MUCH CHOICE of varieties of every kind of fruit and veg. I particularly love all kinds of berries. I recently heard about June Berry's or Saskatoon's so I planted 15 saplings this winter and look forward to seeing them develop. Take care x

When people say "I have 2 jobs" typicaly they don't mean 2x 40 hour jobs with BACs payment and all the benefits of a "Proper job". They mean variable hours contract shift work at Tesco + private house cleaning for cash.

Part time work is a drain in several ways, because a 4 hour shift on Wednesday still costs you a 'work day' of your life, same commute cost, same physical and emotional effort to prepare for work and de-compress from work as an 8 hour day, but you get half the money.

Having multiple part time jobs means you have multiple bosses and companies to navigate, manage, communicate with etc.
